BREAKING!
The cruise ship, which has been stranded in north-eastern Greenland since Monday afternoon, was pulled free just after 9 on Thursday morning, the Arctic Command informs KNR.
It is the Nature Institute's fish research ship Tarajoq that has made another attempt, which has been successful. That's what Brian Jensen, commander captain and head of the operations department in Arctic Command, says.
Carsten Lund, who is the CEO of Sunstone, the shipping company that owns the cruise ship, can confirm that the Ocean Explorer has been released.
However, he cannot comment further, as the ship is chartered by the Australian tourism company, Aurora Expeditions.
The tourist association has not yet responded to KNR's inquiries.
Sun Stone is grateful for the help they have received from the ship Tarajoq. They also say thank you to everyone who made an effort to ensure that no one on board was injured or offered help to the grounded ship, the shipping company writes in a press release.
The ship will now be transported to the nearest port where the passengers will be transported to an airport so they can be flown home.
The Arctic Command's inspection ship Knuds Rasmussen is still on its way to Alpefjorden. The Ocean Explorer has been ordered by the Danish Maritime Authority to sail into port so that the bottom can be examined by divers. The Arctic Command informs KNR.
