This is why the tears of pro-illegal immigration activists have ZERO effect on me. I have no tolerance whatsoever for liberal immigration policy.
Because I hate evil and love my neighbors, I will never move one centimeter on this issue.
Every illegal alien must go home, the border must be closed entirely, and every trafficker must be executed.
No amount of emotional extortion will change my mind. Take your Toxic Empathy elsewhere. It doesn’t work on me.
“I don’t think I have the perfect interpretation [of scripture] because I’m not a perfect person, but I do look to the word of God to be my authority and humbly, in humility, try to do the very best I can to understand all of it in context and apply it to my life. Rationale is really important…but to say that it’s the determinant of morality, that’s a really scary world. Think about what our rationale has rationalized for so long.”
No one was tricked. We just read Ephesians 2:8-10, where God through Paul insists 7 times in just 3 verses that salvation is a gift from God that cannot be earned.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
Salvation is:
1) “by grace”
2) “through faith”
3) “not your own doing”
4) “gift of God”
5) “not a result of works”
And we are/have:
6) “His workmanship”
7) “good works… which GOD prepared beforehand.”
Earlier in the passage, Paul says before Christ, we are *dead* in sin. A dead person has no power at all to save themselves or make themselves worthy before God.
There are many other passages that are just as clear.
Romans 3:23-24: “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith.”
All Scripture must be read in context and in light of other Scripture. Thus, James 2:24, which says we are not justified by faith alone but also by works, must be read in light of Ephesians 2, Romans 3, Romans 9, Galatians 2, Philippians 3, Titus 3, etc., which all make abundantly clear that we cannot earn our salvation at all.
This would mean that James is arguing that works are a necessary signifier of saving faith, not a prerequisite for it.
Thank the Lord for this truth, which God has used to save many from the damning lie that we’re saved by our own efforts and acts of penance.
