When I sat down with Aliko Dangote this afternoon, my first question was that I was surprised at the percentage of the shares floated in the ongoing US$1.6 billion IPO, it's ~ 3.4% shareholding floated (see quoted tweet).
My question was:
· Why not float more, given that the market depth of demand (local and international) seems to be able to absorb more shares?
· Is there a plan to further increase the float in the market given what early sounding signals to be high appetite?
Dangote says:
· Yes, there is a plan for the gobble up more than has been floated currently in the market for the IPO
· The Group will try as much as possible to take up more than has been advertised & the group is in talks with the regulators to see how to actualise this
· Plans are underway to do "something very creative" to ensure that the IPO accommodates as many Africans as possible
This unit cost Sh 3,000,000 and remains one of our most sought-after models. Without the off-grid package, it comes to about Sh 2.6M.
Plinth: 89 sq m
3 bedrooms | 2 bathrooms
We classify it as premium finished as per our standard.
The extra value is in the off-grid setup: solar hot-water shower, 20,000-litre membrane water tank, precast digester and other systems designed to reduce monthly utility dependence and make the home more self-sufficient.
That means less pressure from power interruptions, better water storage security and lower dependence on conventional services — especially useful in areas where infrastructure is still catching up.

Charles W. Mills was a Caribbean philosopher who taught for a long time in the US. He is famous for his book "The Racial Contract," in which he argued that Western civilization pontificates about its great principles of human equality, but behind those principles, is a powerful but unspoken contract, where "Western political theory, is not a contract between everybody (“we the people”), but between just the people who count, the people who really are people (“we the white people”)."
For this contract to remain in place, there must be an "epistemology of ignorance," where the West is committed to not knowing about non-Europeans, or to inventing mythologies and stereotypes about them. That ignorance is the only way to commit massacres and expand conquest. Because once people are unknowable, killing and exploiting them is common sense. So in the western institutions, to be educated is to hate knowledge, lack self-awareness, and live in a delusional fantasy world based on myth rather than social reality.
Kenya's knowledge philosophy is the racial contract. We hate knowledge. We call knowledge arrogance, or we say it's useless to the market because it offers no solutions. And this ideology is repeated ESPECIALLY in the media and the school system. Educated Kenyans pretend it exists only in the church, and only talk about it in the school in terms of old complaints of 1960 about culture and language.
But tell Kenyans that 2025 PISA tests are a colonial tool of control of our children's minds, and they will not understand what you're talking about. The only problem in Kenyan education is the English language and the fact that we do not call "explorers" invaders. Tell Kenyans to go beyond that, and they get a headache.
The Racial Contract is very much the foundation of knowledge in Kenya. Kenya isn't for knowledge. If you're knowledgeable and skilled, the Kenya government will sell you to a government in Europe or West Asia. The more ignorant you are, the more Kenya rewards you. The more you can repeat myths and old lines that are 70 years old, the more you're respected. And then that ignorance is called authentically African.
Imagine that. An African country so in love with racism, it teaches ignorance to its children and calls that "African culture."

The US Energy Secretary Chris Wright has criticised international lenders for refusing to finance a proposed coal-fired power plant in Mombasa, Kenya.
He said African countries should be able to choose the energy sources they need.

Ruto, you cannot deceive the people of Nyanza with tears again.
Cry if you must. Shed every tear in the book. But tears cannot erase four years of broken promises, economic hardship and political betrayal.
Nyanza has seen this movie before. The sympathy theatrics may work for a rally, but they will not rewrite the political record.
Even if you cry, you are still a one-term President.
#China says it sent #Kenya goods worth Sh1.3 TRILLION in 2025. @KRACorporate@KRACare recorded imports of only Sh672 billion. That leaves a Sh629 BILLION gap that DOES NOT appear in our books.
Over five years, the gap has grown to Sh2.76 TRILLION.
This cannot be brushed aside as a minor difference in paperwork. Kenya’s import figures should generally be higher than China’s export figures because imports are recorded on a cost, insurance and freight basis. Yet our recorded value is almost half.
That raises serious questions about UNDER-DECLARATION, mis-invoicing, customs valuation and POSSIBLE revenue leakage.
Customs is one of government’s BIGGEST revenue sources. If imports from our largest trading partner can fall through such a huge gap year after year, then Kenya DOES NOT simply have a revenue problem. We have a revenue LEAKAGE problem.
@KRACorporate and the @KeTreasury MUST explain this.
We need a full public reconciliation of China’s export records and KRA’s import records for 2021 to 2025. We need effective data-sharing with Chinese customs, targeted audits of high-risk imports, and accountability for the systems and officials responsible for closing these gaps.
Kenyans are being told that the country needs more taxes because government has no money. But before taxing Kenyans more, close the holes through which their money is already escaping.
Kenyans are not poor. We are being taxed in a system that may be failing to collect what is already owed.
That is the issue. #GetitDone #ReKe

Mr President you found public debt at Sh8.7 trillion. Today it is Sh13 trillion. That is Sh4.3 trillion added in four years. The Controller of Budget is telling Treasury to stop borrowing because we have smashed the 55 percent debt ceiling. You do not reduce a mountain by standing on it and announcing it is a hill. #DeniBandia #ReKe
