Marriage isn’t about 50:50. It’s not about 100:0 either.

Yesterday I wasn’t feeling well. Husb bought us dinner from pasar malam and fed me medicine while I was in bed. He ironed the clothes for us and the kids, did the laundry and washed the dishes.

Today, he went to bed early. Just after Isyak, he dozed off. I could see how exhausted he was. So I took care of the rest of the house chores, ironing the clothes, doing the laundry and washing the dishes.

You see, yesterday, it was 30:70. And today, it’s 70:30. The ratio is never fixed. Sometimes it’s 55:45. Sometimes it’s 60:40. Depends on day. Sometimes it even got to 43.8:56.2

Marriage is about partnership. It’s about complementing and backing each other up. You can’t define it by an exact ratio. As long as both respect each other, understand partnership and responsibility, they’ll make it, insyaAllah.

Bila kerja zakat ni kerap dapat jumpa,

Pemuda usia tak sampai 30 tahun, minta kirakan zakat. Gaji dia RM22,000 sebulan.

Beberapa minit kemudian, ada sorang abang 40an datang mohon bantuan zakat. Gajinya RM1,500 dengan isteri tak bekerja dan anak 4 orang.

Dua kehidupan berbeza, tapi menggambarkan hakikat dunia sebenar. Rezeki itu benar-benar ujian serta milik Allah.

Namun indahnya Islam ini, di sebalik perbezaan begini, ada satu sistem yang menyatukan mereka iaitu zakat.

Ia bukan sekadar rukun Islam yang wajib, tapi 'jambatan penghubung' antara si kaya dan si susah. Tanpa mereka saling mengenali. Yang memberi tidak tahu siapa yang menerima, dan yang menerima tidak tahu siapa yang memberi.

Yang kaya disucikan hartanya, yang susah diringankan beban hidupnya.
