The show is literally titled 21st Century Grand Prince’s Wife (大군부인). The male lead is a Grand Prince (son of a KING), not an Imperial Prince. The world-building consistently established a modern surviving Kingdom, not an Empire.
Demanding a 12-string imperial crown for a King makes zero internal sense. The 9-string crown and "Cheonse" are completely consistent within the writer’s fictional timeline. It’s a creative AU choice, not a national crisis. Media Today is spot on: weaponizing "historical distortion" to cancel art is total overkill. 👑📰

After the lead actors, the director and writer have also apologized. The director also made it clear that the historical inaccuracy in Ep. 11 was not intentional and refuted many other claims. Now it’s MBC’s turn.

K-uaenas are already calling on MBC to take appropriate action. We believe they will correct any mistakes, refute unreasonable claims, and take legal action against those who are maliciously damaging the IP. That will bring this situation to an end.

I also hope international uaenas don’t get too caught up in so-called “knetz” reactions. They are just a biased but vocal minority. The Korean public is not foolish. They won’t support distorting the production team’s intentions, manufacturing controversy, and shifting blame onto the actors.

It's a textbook political hit job using national stars like IU and Byeon Woo-seok as collateral damage to whip up nationalist sentiments.
​Furthermore, the critics’ historical arguments make zero sense. In an alternative history where Korea peacefully transitions from the Joseon Dynasty into a modern Constitutional Monarchy, the citizens would be terrified of the royal family trying to reclaim absolute power.
​Upgrading the King to an "Emperor" with 12 tassels and imperial chants (Man-se) would look like a step backward toward a centralized dictatorship. Keeping traditional, non-imperial court protocols (Cheon-se and 9 tassels) shows the monarchy is staying in its lane and respecting democracy.
