Need a refresher on all the news coming out of Angels camp this week? No problem! We’ve got you covered on everything from the “Ohtani rule”, arbitration agreements, trade rumors, and more. https://t.co/RpCZ6NDC6e
-“Except for SP”: Does this mean they’re more invested in Montas/Manaea than Ken’s initial report suggested?
-Or maybe they’re monitoring Johnny Cueto’s market? He’s the only starter of note left on the FA market
A whole lot of questions from that one
Before signing free-agent reliever Ryan Tepera, Angels inquired about several RHHs, sources tell @TheAthletic. List included Luke Voit, J.D. Davis, Trey Mancini. After signing Tepera for 2/14, team reluctant to boost payroll further except for SP. Wants to retain $$$ flexibility.
-Why the interest in another RHH bat when you already have one in Upton whose role is unclear?
-Where would they have played Davis, Voit or Mancini? All are corner IF types and those are occupied by Rendon/Walsh
-Financial flexibility is for an Ohtani extension, I’m assuming
1/2
José Suárez in his first start of Spring Training:
2.1 IP
1 H
0 R
1 BB (1 HBP)
3 K
49 pitches, 31 strikes
Got into some trouble in the 2nd inning, but a pretty nice effort overall
Something interesting I found this morning: Per Statcast's Run Value, José Suarez has the second-most effective changeup in all of baseball, behind only Devin Williams's Airbender
I did some research on this because I was curious, and I came up with 22 more ABs for Ohtani last year had the new rule been in effect back then. That’s also not including a few games where he pitched in but didn’t hit at all, which would presumably add more on top of that.
This is a pretty huge deal for the Angels. Ohtani will now be able to stay in games as a hitter even after being lifted as a pitcher starting this year.

https://t.co/pykb8jO4lF Exclusive: MLB and the PA have agreed to rules that include expanded roster, return of the ghost runner and 9-inning games for double-headers plus a rule for the whole CBA that right now will probably just impact Shohei Ohtani.
