TODAY I PASSED MY PHD WITH MINOR AMENDMENTS! As a girl that dropped out of college and was a single mum before the age of 20, I cannot express how much this means to me. The first Dr Halstead in my family. Hereโs to breaking stereotypes and pushing boundaries #wecandohardthings
Our paper "Crumbling cliffs and intergenerational cohesivity" is out in #GeosceinceCommunication๐ฅ
Working with young people in Withernsea, one of the worldโs fastest eroding coastlines, we developed a participatory, creative model of climate praxis

I wrote about how education, in its broadest sense, can spark a love for the planet. When we see the world with wonder, like a child does, we find hope for change.

๐ฟ We did a stall at Community Food Growing with @ZamMunda
People tried out CommuniMap with us and now weโve got new records from Bellahouston Allotments! ๐
Plus: beans from Africa, yummy rice & salad, fermenting & kind people. Such a good vibe!

"We want people to have the space to challenge things"
@UofGlasgow Professor Ria Dunkley is part of the team who developed the new 'Communimap' app, to allow communities to connect with their local environment.
Get downloading communiMap!
A place to share your stories, to contribute to community science, and help raise the collective voice ๐ซถ
The more people who use it, the more powerful that voice becomes.
Feel free to DM me if you have any queries or questions ๐ฑ
#communiMap
After a successful soft launch, weโre excited to share that communiMap is now live for everyone! ๐
Glaswegians (and beyond!) can start noticing, sharing & caring for the places they love!
Huge thanks to everyone whoโs been part of the journey so far! Download links below...
Happy Monday! ๐ฅณ
Thrilled to share our new paper in Childrenโs Geographies:
โPlace-based & intergenerational storytelling for youth climate action: Moving beyond participation and towards momentumโ ๐๐
Read it here: https://t.co/UZGlQaIwCT
Drawing on research in Vietnam, we argue meaningful youth action requires more than participation - it requiresย momentum. By grounding climate stories in place and intergenerational voices, we can build emotional resonance, support agency, and sustain long-term engagement ๐ฅณ
Did you visit Windermere as a child? Maybe you grew up by the lake or holidayed there?
In partnership with @LoveWindermere
we're collecting childhood memories of Windermere for my @BritishAcademy_
funded Guardians of the falls project https://t.co/ikdzFWKQHX
๐ People & Nature: Join us on 4 Nov to help shape a community science project that collects stories of nature connections across Glasgowโs West End. ๐ฑ๐ฑ

When we moved in 5 months ago we had a D rating, but with the help of a few lovely engineers, Stirling Council and Scottish government grants/loans, we now have an A.
Just in time for winter too โ๏ธ๐ฑ๐ซถ
@Hidden_Gardens and @CommuniGALLANT are engaging with communities and supporting people to adopt sustainable practices through hands-on composting experience, helping to manage food waste and contribute to reducing the cityโs carbon footprint.

Today was our second Compost Co-Lab induction at @Hidden_Gardens โฆ
We now have a team of compost analysers who will measure the health of the compost, recording it at regular intervals ๐ซถ
Watch this space as we share our learning ๐ฑ

Such a brilliant day, with such a buzz to it! Plus we got a spot in perfect view of the stage - where the Red Hot Chilli Pipers did their thing ๐๐ผ๐
We had the most wonderful time at the Govan Footbridge Festival on Saturday.
Everyone who came along to our stall made a magnificent wildflower seedbomb sculpture, which will go on to influence the design of a rain water collection device in Govan ๐ง
Itโs been a hectic week for the community collaboration team in #GALLANT โฆ two back to back conferences presenting and convening in both Glasgow and at @RGS_IBG London.
Lots of learning & new opportunities, but for now, itโs time to switch off and relax for the weekend!
Interested in participatory mapping? At #RGSIBG24?
Come along to our session today at 11:10am in Royal School of Mines rm G41, to find out more about various applications throughout the world, and unpack both opportunities and challenges encountered.
