An update on my beautiful boy Jon :
Since his devastating diagnosis, Jon has bravely fought the relentless progression of his condition - ALS [Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis] - with extraordinary resilience and dignity. He has defied the statistics of survival by more than two years.
In 2021, Jon lost nearly all function in his arms and hands and eventually his ability to walk.
In 2022, he became fully dependent on his family for all feeding, showering, dressing and personal care.
Over the past year, Jon has required the assistance of a ventilator overnight to help him to breathe as his lung function has dramatically declined. Jon has all but lost his ability to speak due to the weakening of muscles in his tongue, neck and jaw. This also means eating is very challenging, yet he has been valiantly determined to avoid having a feeding tube.
Now, Jon is fully paralysed which keeps him indoors resting most of the time, but he really enjoys getting out in the sun when he can and loves having his mates over to watch footy or cricket and to share a meal and a few beers.
He is constantly researching alternative approaches to his health & wellbeing and is always keen to try anything that may make a difference to his symptoms.
He starts every day with the biggest smile and before going to sleep at night, shares something he's grateful for in his day. His unwavering positive spirit is an inspiration to all who know and love him.
So in the words of Jon himself, "Let's Motor On" and #Fight4Jon 💛🖤
