@OnDisasters@AviationSafety Thanks Francisco - I only wonder how you search the DB by a given date. I've not spotted that option, only by aircraft type, etc. It seems that one would have to search each year for a given day of the year. Anyway .. thank you for bringing these highlights.
@TheIntelFrog If it's glycidyl methacrylate, as Grok says, that's a liquid at ambient temperature (BP 189C). It not clear to me why a simple leak would generate an aerosol, leading to the clouds in the video.
@OnDisasters@Dr_Nick_the_1st The lease arrangement was also shady and didn't meet FAA regulations. While that didn't bring the aircraft down it doesn't exactly spark confidence. Again "no accident".
@OnDisasters@Dr_Nick_the_1st They had done so on several prior flights in order to get acceptable performance from the right engine, without addressing the underlying cause. The high fuel use was assessed to stem from the willful operation in "auto-rich" rather than the normal "auto-lean".
@OnDisasters@Dr_Nick_the_1st Well .. the report states that the pilots had knowingly chosen to run the right engine in "auto-rich" to minimize a rough running condition. The flight plan also purported 5 hrs endurance based on fuel taken on but that didn't reflect reality, per the report.
@OnDisasters I do have to say that I bristle at the term "accident". These incidents are only the result of failures to properly manage risk.
This report cites: "insufficient efficiency of risk mitigation measures to prevent runway incursions", and a host of additional failings.
@skdh In 2000, a proud optometrist demonstrated his brand new, photogrametric equipment for fitting eyeglasses. It's "not East Germany any more"! Having selected a frame, his assistant pulled out an old plastic ruler to measure the IP distance. Oh .. only HE knows how to use it 🤓!
@gregbagwell I just have to titter every time I see the front page of The Sun. Isn't the real headline "top-right"?
Why do you worry what they might write about aviation topics? 😉😎
@gregbagwell@mikecosgrove45 Well .. he did write "fuel", not "gasoline", right? In the UK, many of you seem to drive cars fueled by something called "Diesel fuel" (some nonsense about CO2 emissions?), chemically more like "turbine fuel" than "gasoline", no? Yup, much higher flash point than "gasoline".
@OnDisasters@aero_in "not clear what had caused the plane to crash"
Sure it is!
It's always: intersecting vectors
Sometimes: gravity, contributing to the above
@IndubitablyTho@lookner Basic physics here.
If the wind is strong enough to move the round from a "safe impact area" to one with gas/oil facilities then that wind isn't blowing on this planet.
Know your target and what lies beyond it, right? Incidents like this don't happen by accident.
@OnDisasters The "denialists" are those who deny that this situation is a "disaster waiting to happen". I've been to the spots below the ends of the runway - unbelievable that airliners would operate there. It's clear that Brazilian authorities just accept that risk to their population.
@El_gato_perez_@aero_in The existence of "souls" is clearly debatable but there are buildings with people living in them, at both ends of the runway. There have already been major incidents. They're not "accidents". The risk is such that either the airport or buildings shouldn't be there at all.
@caitoz We don't need the "military-industrial complex" to assure humanity of we already know. Wars are endless, since the beginning of "organized humanity".
Before that, it was the competition of one life to prevail over another life .. i
It's not dystopian. It's nature,
@OnDisasters cause cited the mechanics’ failure to follow proper installation procedures on Work Card 7204, repeated supervisory failures to enforce compliance, Eastern management’s inadequate response to prior similar incidents, and FAA oversight shortcomings
yup ..
@Teslarati Well actually .. I hardly use it. Why?
It's not power operated (on my M3P) and has no outside release. That makes it too inconvenient to use regularly. It also gets very hot. I keep climate on so the interior and trunk are OK but the frunk roasts. 🤨🤨
