Yesterday, we filed a friend-of-the-court (amicus) brief in the Supreme Court in a case that will decide whether the FBI can spy on our communities based on no other reason than our race, religion, and ethnicity, or if in fact such surveillance can be held accountable in court.
Please heed this. When attorneys like me give this advice, we're not insinuating you've done something wrong. The most common response I get when giving legal advice around police or FBI/fed visits is, "well, I have nothing to hide." It's not you we don't trust. It's the police.
Muslims, always remember that when the the government or law enforcement wants to talk you, and someone with influence suggests you shouldn’t retain an attorney, they’re either with gov’t or law enforcement, or in their pocket. Doesn’t matter if they’re Muslim. They often are.
Supervisors @D4GordonMar, @myrnamelgar, @RafaelMandelman, we're counting on you!
Heavy, invasive live surveillance threatens the culture of activism that we love about San Francisco.
We deserve to celebrate and march without any limitations on our First Amendment rights.
Tomorrow (9/20), the SF Board of Supervisors is expected to consider SFPD’s surveillance policy, which would give police new powers to spy on San Francisco residents while we commute to work, visit healthcare providers, attend religious services, and more.
For weeks, SF community members and civil rights advocates have been reaching out to the Mayor and Board of Supervisors to share our concerns. There's still time to raise your voice and call on supervisors to oppose SFPD's unchecked surveillance.
Come to @SundayStreets in the Western Addition this Sunday, from 11am-4pm! We'll be out on Fillmore Street and ready to chat about getting out the vote this Nov. and how we can all help SF families and neighbors know our rights at work, in community spaces, and more.

Welcome home, Lee ❤️
In May, Hmong refugee Yeng Lee was exonerated after serving over 23 yrs for a crime he did not commit. Despite ICE's threats, he's coming home to Sacramento today!
We need the #VISIONAct to bring home more Californians like Lee!

Highlighting some of the amazing work ALC's NSCR has done since its inception, including severing local connections with the federal Joint Terrorism Task Force and protecting communities from FBI and law enforcement harassment and surveillance.
In October 2020, ALC & community members across the East Bay came together in celebration– Oakland City Council voted unanimously to end Oakland PD’s partnership w/the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force.
We reflected on this victory & the lessons learned. https://t.co/h8dh1W0JCU

Read the No Muslim Ban Ever Campaign's letter to the president, signed by over 100 organizations and outlining specific steps the administration can take now, here: https://t.co/QNJEfaj7g1
More than a year since Biden repealed the Muslim Ban, families still have little clarity and, day by day, little hope left. We need more than just the repeal.
Thanks @alex__mar for your coverage.

NEW: There still isn’t a roadmap to family reunification one year after repealing the Muslim Ban.
Advocates and Muslim Americans say nothing has been done to mitigate the damage, loss, and separation caused by the ban.

We are one of 36 to submit a letter on Feb. 10 to the @sfbos supporting the Board’s efforts to protect our city’s Surveillance Technology Ordinance & sharing serious concerns with Mayor @LondonBreed measure to undo it.
Add your name in support: https://t.co/4iqki678KB
The ACLU is unequivocal in our opposition to @LondonBreed's plan to gut San Francisco's surveillance oversight law.
And we're not alone. 36 organizations, both local and national, have joined forces to stop it.
