Manchester City assistant manager Pep Lijnders will leave the club at the end of the season.
City were keen for the Dutch coach to stay on and be part of a new era at the Etihad following the end of Pep Guardiola’s glittering 10-year reign.
Former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca is set to take over from Guardiola, but Lijnders is understood to have opted against signing a new long-term contract to become one of Maresca’s assistants.
Lijnders will say his goodbyes to City players and staff following Sunday’s final game of the season at home to Aston Villa and he’s expected to embark on a new challenge elsewhere this summer.

When Nuno Espirito Santo greeted the players after overseeing his first training session, he informed James Ward-Prowse privately that he would not feature in his plans.
The board were concerned with how Nuno alienated Ward-Prowse, but felt they had to back him because he was their appointment.
Off the field, tension grew stronger between Nuno and his coaches Mark Robson, Steve Potts, Gerard Prenderville and Billy Lepine.
According to multiple sources, the coach openly admitted he did not trust them.
Nuno often chose not to speak to the players during half-time and after games.
At the interval against Wolves, Robson attempted to give the players a rollicking because of the poor performance. Nuno told his assistant coach to sit down and there was a heated exchange.

@hollseey Neither tbh holly. I love Parker yes he may get us up but I just don't think he could keep us there as for Nuno no way he has contributed to this by his poor tactics.
Imo I want Nuno gone he has cost us countless games with his pathetic tinkering and going to defensive. But ultimately the full blame goes to the board including Kretinsky he has done nothing since he has been at the club and needs to go to.
@RoshaneSport They look like they have already got there bags packed. Plus a majority will have already spoken to their agents on a move even Nuno. Wasn't expecting much tbh had multiple chances to pull away and not taken them. Getting what we deserve Roshane.
