“I see Serie A getting more and more poor. We’re leaders now but in 15 years we’ll be a supermarket.

The EPL will be the number one league with everyone else behind them. We don’t have funds.

Then the Arabs will come into football and we don’t have any appeal anymore. There’s no infrastructure or new stadiums. We’re still behind 30 years.

Do you know the Arabs are building entire cities in the desert?

There’s so much economic strength in that area that they definitely won’t stop. They’ll definitely enter the football world because it’s the biggest business and gives the most visibility.

What do we offer? What is our appeal? If the government doesn’t intervene we’ll be the 3rd wheel. In England they’re incentivizing young kids to play football and the government is providing funding for football academies.

They’re also doing it in Germany. The government provides funding to register kids in the academies free of charge.

In Italy we’re standing still, as if we expect everything as a right. When I speak about these things people think I’m crazy. I look to the future and I’m being honest with you.

I see the future of Italian calcio as very bleak.”
