Paul had more than enough reasons to curse both believers and unbelievers who opposed him.

They discredited his calling and apostleship, mocked his gentleness, and outsiders even sought to kill him. Yet see how he responded:

To the church, he said: “The authority the Lord gave me is for building you up, not for tearing you down.” (2 Corinthians 10:8).

Of Alexander the coppersmith who harmed him greatly, he simply said: “The Lord will repay him according to his deeds.” (2 Timothy 4:14).

When his entire people disowned him, he prayed for mercy for them: “May it not be charged against them.” (2 Timothy 4:16).

This is the path of a believer, especially a minister: you will be mocked, slandered, and opposed for Christ’s sake. But the instruction of our Lord is clear:

“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad.” (Matthew 5:11–12).

Peter also said: “If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.” (1 Peter 4:14).

The apostles consistently taught: “Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay with a blessing.” (1 Peter 3:9).

The true test of our character is not when people are kind to us, but when they are hostile.

As Jesus asked: “If you love those who love you, what reward will you get?” (Matthew 5:46).

So I pray God helps every minister to act in a manner worthy of their calling.

“If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue… his religion is worthless.” (James 1:26).
