After investigating the case, a news organization found several serious flaws in the investigation.

The police did not carry out a single compulsory investigative measure. They failed to seize the CCTV recording or search the premises to secure the surveillance system, even though it could have provided crucial evidence. They also failed to seize and search the perpetrator’s cell phone.

In addition, they did not secure recordings or other evidence in which the victim reported that she had been sexually assaulted, nor did they interview relevant witnesses.

The police only reviewed CCTV footage that the perpetrator, who owned the store, had edited and provided himself. They did not even verify whether the footage was original or had been tampered with.

When the victim’s family protested, the police reportedly said, “Applying to the prosecution for a warrant takes too long and is too much trouble.”

The prosecution later secured the CCTV system, the perpetrator’s cell phone, and the audio recordings. However, by then, several months had passed since the victim’s death, making it difficult to recover the CCTV footage. As a result, the investigation has made little progress.
