There's a pattern of what seems like an irregularity at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja. I do not want to be quick to call it fraud or diversion, but it appears like an anomaly. I will speak to what I know and can prove.

So, there are some guys meant to enforce the no parking and no pick up rules around the airport. For instance, if you parked to make a quick call, they sneak behind your car, clamp it, and tell you about some rules against about not stopping or parking in some places.

They also tell you about the "written warning" placed on the road. If you ask them where the said warning is, they look around and when they cannot see anyone in sight, they say: "The law is the law and you will pay a fine of #25k at our office".

If you're unwilling to negotiate, they insist on you going to their office. It is a container painted red. When you get there, they talk about the no parking law at the airport and the fine. "You will pay #25k" penalty. "Okay, I don't want to miss my flight" or "The person I came to pick is already waiting. How do I pay?"

They ask you to bring your card, that one PoS guy is around. "Why am I paying to a random PoS guy. Isn't there a designated account for this purpose?" They point at one account on inner wall of their office reluctantly.

"That is it. But if you pay there, we will not release your car until they confirm it. It can take many hours or even days", but there is a PoS guy around. They step out, call unto one Aminu who rushes up to nominate an account. You take it, punches in the Opay or Moniepount or Palmpay numbers and it brings: "Sani Nasiru", "Bala Matazu", "Yahaya Matage" or whatever.

#25,000 goes into that account.

You do not have to wait for hours for "them" to confirm it.

They knew no one would wait for hours for the people in charge of the FAAN sanctioned account to confirm receiving the fee.
Even if they confirmed it, these guys are at liberty to tell you that they have not.

Every argument about generating receipts of payment and showing them will not work.
