An unusual off-cycle opportunity has opened at Columbia/CUIMC: two NIH T32-funded postdoctoral research fellowship positions in Cardiac Surgery and Cardiovascular Science. We are looking to fill both ASAP @ColumbiaSurgery
Excited about this work I led from the @kkarilab. In this work we developed a CNS-specific assay and validated it ability to predict severity and outcome in TBI cohorts.
@iSlimfit I know a medical doctor working there. Any time he wants to renew his visa, he goes to Egypt to renew it because they don't have embassy in Nigeria.
Since the October ceasefire agreement, more than 500 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza.
I urge all to implement the agreement in full, comply with international law & allow unimpeded passage of humanitarian relief at scale.
The Israeli state is systematically raping Palestinians.
But there is no outrage, no sickened condemnations from Western politicians and pundits.
They're silent now. History won't be.

A new level of open & deliberate defiance of international law, including of the privileges & immunities of the United Nations, by the State of Israel.
Early this morning, Israeli forces stormed the UNRWA Headquarters, a United Nations site, in East Jerusalem.
Bulldozers entered the compound & began demolishing buildings inside it under the watch of lawmakers & a member of the government.
This constitutes an unprecedented attack against a United Nations agency & its premises.
Like all UN Member States & countries committed to the international rule-based order, Israel is obliged to protect & respect the inviolability of UN premises.
This comes in the wake of other steps taken by Israeli authorities to erase the Palestine Refugee identity.
On January 12, Israeli forces stormed into an UNRWA health centre in East Jerusalem & ordered it to close.
Water + power supplies to UNRWA facilities - including health & education buildings - are also scheduled to be cut in the coming weeks.
This is a direct result of legislation passed by the Israeli parliament in December, which stepped up existing anti-UNRWA laws adopted in 2024.
These actions, together with previous arson attacks & a large-scale disinformation campaign, fly in the face of the ruling in October by the International Court of Justice, which restated that Israel is obliged under international law to facilitate UNRWA’s operations, not hinder or prevent them. The court also stressed that Israel has no jurisdiction over East Jerusalem.
There can be no exceptions.
This must be a wake-up call.
What happens today to UNRWA will happen tomorrow to any other international organisation or diplomatic mission, whether in the Occupied Palestinian Territory or anywhere around the world.
International law has come under increasing attack for too long & is risking irrelevancy in the absence of response by Member States.
We were all shocked at this video showing an amputee brutalized by the IDF. But it turns out that this is just the tip of the iceberg of what Israel has done to this poor man.
Abu Sayed, a 61-year-old farmer near Masafer Yatta by Avigayil in the southern Hebron Hills, endured a sustained pattern of settler harassment that destroyed his land and livelihood. Settlers repeatedly encroached on his seven-and-a-half dunams, fenced portions of his fields, drilled barriers, and blocked access to olives, wheat, and barley, effectively denying him usable cultivation space and threatening his family’s subsistence.
In a land-related confrontation, a settler grabbed Abu Sayed’s son’s phone, choked the boy, and Abu Sayed himself was restrained, with his left hand twisted as he collapsed. A settler security coordinator then fired, striking Abu Sayed in the right leg and leading to a severe injury that necessitated amputation after infection and medical complications.
After the injury, the Israeli army detained him, binding his hands behind his back and blindfolding him, sometimes for long periods (about 10 hours). He reports beatings or rough handling during transport and confinement, with insults such as “Arab, dirty” and remarks suggesting cameras were unnecessary.
He waited for medical attention, and only later was he taken to a hospital where his right leg was amputated. The following months featured repeated detentions—sometimes while on crutches—alongside ongoing land surveillance and barrier construction by settlers, creating a persistent atmosphere of fear and insecurity on his property and disrupting his family’s ability to live and work there.
There are countless stories like this. This time there was a camera there. Usually there isn't one.
Excited to share that our lab’s new paper is now published in Alzheimer’s & Dementia!
This project focused on validating the p-tau217+ plasma biomarker across multiple community cohorts and defining a cutpoint that can help improve consistency in early Alzheimer’s detection.
We are proud of our team and collaborators for making this work possible.
