Long before my first daughter was born, her name was already decided. Everyone who mattered to me was in the know, and the reason was too obvious to ask.

In Dagbani, the word that encapsulated these values was "Aadalchi." That's the name we've chosen for my soon-to-be four-year-old daughter. We affectionately call her Chichi. Sometimes, when friends visit, they playfully refer to her as Little Charlotte.
