@moultano@tracewoodgrains Awesome weather/natural beauty + Silicon Valley + Hollywood as massive draws and money generators is why the desirability (and GDP) is so high. No one moved here because it’s well-governed, and in fact people move or stay here despite that (to be clear, it’s not ALL on Newsom).
@tracewoodgrains@moultano Also, CA has a horrible affordability crisis, highest # of unsheltered homeless (with 24 billion unaccounted for dollars spent on it), is now tied for worst unemployment rate in the US, etc. (see screenshots).
All this despite high taxes and a Dem supermajority since 2012!
Al Jazeera journalist @AnasAlSharif0 breaks down after a woman on the street collapsed from hunger. Gaza is now in an acute hunger crisis with 19 people starving to death per day.

CA has a major loophole in anti-corruption regulations that allows elected leaders to raise unlimited sums of cash from corporate interests, and even foreign governments, as long as they do so through nonprofits or foundations that they have tremendous influence over.
Sorry for tweeting so much, but Twitter throttles out-bound links, so I'm trying this again.
SoCal animal shelters are overwhelmed with people dropping off injured animals they can't take with them as they flee. Many are in need of volunteers, money, and foster homes 🧵
@drpatrick@latimes Most people are less interested in (widely available) perspectives on national politics and far more interested in a publication that will hold our city/county/state officials accountable for their votes/policies/results (on cost of living & quality of life issues) here in LA/CA.
@CharlesFLehman@aaronvalue Thanks. Still not clear to me if any distinction is being made between daily vs weekly/less frequent use (for this paper but also the larger discussion).
Can’t imagine most people defend daily or near-daily use as being free from any downsides (but maybe some do).
@aaronvalue@CharlesFLehman Re: ‘dumber/less active’, are critics just arguing that people are less sharp/productive while they’re literally high?
Or maybe daily users? As opposed to casual ‘weekend warriors’ who replaced their recreational alcohol use with some gummies or whatever. Different groups, no?
@Rafa_Mangual@CityJournal Not sure if you saw Ana’s TYT segment on YouTube re: this story but the pushback in the comments was something like ‘this is because we don’t have universal healthcare (or housing)’ and/or ‘he couldn’t afford expensive psych meds’.
How would you respond to these claims?
@ZavalaA His plan is Resistance 2.0 because he thinks that’s the best path to win a 2028 Dem presidential primary.
Otherwise he’d actually have to address the massive cost of living & quality of life issues that are top of the list for Californians.
We're all focused on the insane responses to "I would prefer my baby not inhale smoke on the subway" right now.
But remember the original: the responses to "I am uncomfortable with open-air crack usage on the subway"
