We have huge respect for the hard working Wool Handlers in the shearing shed. The Rousies who run up and down the board sweeping it clean. The Wool Classer who carefully grades the wool quality. The Wool Presser who takes the bulky fleece and compresses it. #WoolHandling#Rousey
Penning sheep tightly warms them up and makes them easier to shear. These merinos are getting ready to be shorn in a NZ wool shed. The shearers work fast to remove their fleece in one piece - which ends up on a skirting table to be sorted, graded and pressed into wool bales.
This is the undiscovered Balkans – #bosnia. Here the Nepalese shepherds bring sheep across the mountains for us to shear. These flock guardians live outdoors, walk miles each day, carry sick sheep - and have to fend off bears. We would never reach these sheep without them 🐑
Sometimes you have to shepherd sheep through small villages when the river is too high. Sheep can have astounding endurance when it comes to distance.
There are some great stories of #drovers who took sheep from the top of Scotland to #Devon and Wales - and everywhere in between.

Children enjoy helping guide sheep - we call this paddock shifting 🐑 Entertaining way to keep the sheep flock fluidly moving into the next paddock, led by Stanley, Marley and Tiffany. Sheep love new pasture and rotational grazing gives the grass time to replenish #sheepfarming
Sheep shearing along a Cycle Route?🐑 That’s right, this is where sheep graze along the North Rhine! 🇩🇪
The farmers and shepherds help us gather scattered sheep and pen them ready for shearing. Grazing with sheep is the most natural way to manage overgrowth on river banks.
If other countries can lose their shearers in one generation - so can we. We've seen this in the Balkan countries where many farms have no shearers. It’s critical for our country to keep this skill. Thank you @nfulife for featuring our article in the British Farmer & Grower.
A sheep has no chance against a jackal or wolf. Once they're shorn, the flock heads back behind high metal fences that aim to keep their predators out. These rare breed Balkan sheep roam freely eating wild Mediterranean herbs. And they may even give you a baaa greeting 🐑 #sheep
James grew up on his family’s sheep farm in Tasmania. He says the state of Tasmania is the gem of the country. He completed his shearer training with AWI (Australian Wool Innovation) and continues to shear at numerous competitions that promote shearing and wool handling.
We bring our own portable electric handypieces ready to shear on-the-spot. Mobile shearing in the mountains requires careful planning and the right tools - because there's no power. These sheep are patiently waiting for their turn to be shorn in the farm yard.

Shearing jobs are an amazing way to see the world. Every job in the shearing chain matters. Whether you’re a shearer, wool handler, cook, farmer or shepherd - we all make this trailer run! Thank you @NFUtweets for featuring our story in @countrysidenfu magazine.
A day on the sheep shearing trailer. Hard work, camaraderie, sounds of shears and the baas of happy sheep. From early morning setup to final shorn fleeces, each day holds a sense of purpose for us.

Corralling sheep is difficult when you don't have a corral. In the Croatian mountains the sheep run along the old stone walls into a fenced area where we can shear them.

We're so lucky to shear in some of the most beautiful places in the world. Shearing is a job that will take you around the globe 🌏

The Istrian sheep are some of our world's original sheep. We shear them to save them for future generations.
Sheep are key to the Balkan economy and part of their local identity. Here we are preparing to shear a small flock of 80 - they've just finished milking.

Some of the sheep in the Croatian mountains haven't been shorn for years. Once we shear off that heavy fleece the sheep returns to its feet a little stunned with how light they feel. And yes, they feel much better with that weight off of them 😀

Sheep love their shepherd. Sheep can recognise human faces and remember them years! Being a shepherd is an all-year-round position that includes all weathers and all jobs - including bringing them off the mountains to be shorn. We couldn't be without them. #shepherd#mountains
