Spanking children is a sure way to teach them that sexual abuse is okay. There is nothing normal about pulling down the pants of child and hitting them in the behind while they scream no and try to get away. You’re teaching them that no matter how loud they scream and how much they cry and try to get away that they have to just take it. See how that mimics rape. The strongest welfare states in the world (the Nordics) tax everyone, including nurses. And they give everyone universal healthcare, childcare, pensions, education in return.

When the middle class has skin in the game, they defend the system. When welfare is 'just for the poor', it becomes a poor program: stigmatized, underfunded, easy to gut.
