It is deeply alarming that despite repeated correspondence, the General Medical Council will not confirm to me whether it is investigating serious allegations about a UK registered doctor allegedly making dehumanising comments about the killing of babies in Gaza.

The GMC says that it is “aware of the concerns” and cites confidentiality. That is not a reassuring response to allegations of this severity.

These comments sit against the backdrop of a genocide in Gaza, and violence at the hands of the IDF in the occupied West Bank. Recently, the UN Independent Commission found that Israeli security forces deliberately targeted and killed Palestinian children.

When the allegation relates to conduct that devalues Palestinian life so explicitly, a lack of transparency behind process is not good enough.
