The earlier mentioned event at the Hanford Site has been resolved. All employees at the 200 East area were accounted and safe during this event. Thank you to all of our crews and team members for their professional response and safe actions.
The Hanford Site app is currently having technical difficulties. We are aware the situation and actively working to resolve the issue.
For current information on the situation please see our website: https://t.co/n5A0ABpa3i
An Alert is the lowest level of emergency classification. No impacts from this emergency are expected beyond the facility boundary.

There is currently an incident on the Hanford Site and the Emergency Operations Center was activated at 5:25 p.m. due to an ammonia leak detected at a holding tank near the Waste Treatment Plant. The 200 East Area was put in a take cover as a precaution.
A look inside underground waste-storage Tank AP-106, where radioactive and chemical waste treated through the TSCR System enters. The system reached a milestone, treating 800k+ gallons of waste that will eventually go to the Vit Plant to be immobilized in glass for safe disposal.
The footprint of the Plutonium Uranium Extraction Plant continues to shrink. Crews with @CPCCHanford recently began demolishing the 211-A Chemical Makeup Tank Farm and pumphouse, which stored a variety of chemicals used during the plant’s plutonium processing era.
Testing will confirm a new vapor monitoring and detection system operates correctly in SY Tank Farm. Crews with @WRPSTOC installed the new equipment in the farm containing 3 underground doubleshell waste storage tanks. The system is used in addition to personal ammonia monitors.
The One Hanford community gives back in big ways throughout the year and especially during the holiday season. From collecting gifts and financial donations to building bikes and ringing bells – the workforce shows they truly care for those around us. Have a happy holiday season!
Sinking a putt and learning a skill: Workers receiving respiratory training at the HAMMER Federal Training Center traverse a miniature golf course while learning correct use of equipment, including managing hoses. This hands-on activity helps them retain safety knowledge.
Coordinating with other DOE sites, @WRPSTOC saved ~ $600k on repurposed whole body contamination monitors. The monitors were no longer needed at the Nevada Test Site, so WRPS coordinated with HMIS to ship the monitors to Hanford. They will be tested and calibrated before used.
Our team delivered a tremendous year of historic achievements in 2023. -- Brian Vance, DOE manager. Read about several Hanford firsts in DOE Office of Environmental Management’s Year in Review released today at https://t.co/bmR96Vd4qP. See the Hanford Site section for highlights.
Exciting news from Hanford! We're celebrating the achievements of our Fire Academy graduates and honoring the promotions within the team. Hanford Fire Department’s leadership and dedication are key to our success and safety. Well done to all!
Hanford contractor @CPCCHanford workers successfully tested equipment that is part of a full-scale mock-up of a system that will be used to transfer radioactive capsules from Hanford’s Waste Encapsulation and Storage Facility to safer, dry storage.
Crews at @CPCCHanford have removed nearly 50% of the hazardous materials in parts of the Reduction-Oxidation Plant. The critical risk-reduction activity is preparing the former plutonium-processing facility for eventual demolition.
Emergency preparedness is a key part of Hanford cleanup operations. Several organizations took part in last month’s limited exercise which involved a simulated accident and fire at the 222-S Lab. The alternate Emergency Operations Center was activated for this exercise.
Engineers w/ @WRPSTOC identifies opportunities for improved efficiency across all projects supporting DFLAW. The only organization at Hanford w/the software & training to provide ops research modeling & guidance to reduce potential downtime as the pace of operations increases.
Every five years, a 1.3-million-gallon pond at the HAMMER Federal Training Center is drained, inspected and repaired. The pond is the primary water source for fire training. Hanford Mission Integration Solutions crews completed widespread maintenance, then refilled the pond.
A refurbished open space for workers improves environmental sustainability with landscaping that does not require watering. @WRPSTOC recently unveiled a redesigned, more eco-friendly courtyard at its 2750E facility. The xeriscape space is designed with water conservation in mind.
Nearly 60 high school students visited the HAMMER Federal Training Center recently to learn about STEM careers available on the Hanford Site. Organized by The STEM Foundation and contractor HMIS, the visit provided career-connected learning opportunities for the students.
