In the 7th chapter of “To Have and To Hold”, Hange makes the decision to inform Levi of the Ackerman proposal. For a man who’d only ever held value as a weapon of war- defined by the strength that made him a monster- being received as *only* a man, feels a cruel reminder of such.
In the 6th chapter of “To Have & To Hold”, Hange’s hope is bludgeoned by a proposal to utilize the Ackerman’s bloodline by way of breeding. Seated alongside those entrusted to save humanity, Hange realizes those men have none of their own. The truth is a weapon in the wrong hand.
@dollf4ngs super well said 🥹 sometimes eren is a hard chara for me to totally resonate with, but your care and insight really helps put him into perspective for me! i do feel that he looked at the world around him and his comrades and felt shame, “why aren’t you as twisted as i am?”
@dollf4ngs but to change isn’t easy! it goes against our nature as beings who find comfort in an unchanging world. familiarity can be easily mistaken as safety, just bc it’s static. someone like Eren, and even Grisha, challenged that safety and they paid the price, fell into the same cycles
@dollf4ngs yeah! I think it’s really the core of what Isayama was trying to say, and why he had Armin take the “blame” too. we all exist on the same earth, living the same things, so we owe it to not just ourselves- but to each other- to change, no matter how small that ripple effect is.
@dollf4ngs which is that cyclical thinking you mentioned, the compulsion to inflict pain bc of said suffering. a cycle of violence! eren played into the jaegerists small minded view, bc it came from within him too. it’s no excuse, but in the end, most everyone wants to survive and be happy.
@dollf4ngs eren was horrified that the world beyond the walls was just as oppressive. he was broken by the push to become a monster when the world around him was made up of the same. like you said, he was a tool for both sides, and he knew that. if there’s no freedom, then it can all burn.
twit made me stop following ppl but I made a fandom priv! mutuals who want to follow can rq @hangesnutsday 🗣️ i’ll be using it mostly for perversion and just other thoughts/stuff of mine that isn’t meta/fic/art
that’s why my feeling is that Erwin saw in hange those same qualities, and admired them enough to have the faith to name hange commander. And even tho he couldn’t have known how it would come about, I do feel that only Hange could have achieved all that came after shiganshina!
lrt wow…. i really love seeing kid levi being treated so gently 🥹 i feel that hange can so easily see the child inside him, and the inner child of most anyone really. the reason why is bc hange never loses sight of child inside themself either imho
hange is informed by that inner child in us all, but not ruled by it, is the point im trying to make! and I think that’s what made Hange able to reach Levi at all, the marleyian soldiers and engineers. Hange had a gift for crossing those insurmountable gulfs btwn others
@hangenumonelvr The third one did for sure happen! The ep
in stohess, I think the first 2 are supplementary art from WIT like anime promo? but not super sure
