How Boris Johnson’s spokespeople answered questions today about whether the Prime Minister broke Covid rules by having parties in Downing Street during lockdown.
When you're telling Grandad about your plant-based recipe and he's less than enthusiastic...
... but he buys you the nutritional yeast anyway.
Good luck, bakers! We can't wait to see what you come up with on #FreeFromWeek.

For #CaramelWeek we're treating you to 'payn ragon', a spiced caramel from The Forme of Cury.
This recipe uses the soft ball method of sugarwork, a technique the bakers will know well. However, bakers at home: please DO NOT 'take up a drope thereof with thy fyngur'! 1/2 #GBBO
You've heard of rough puff and shortcrust, but what about 'surprizing paste'? This recipe comes from Sarah Harrison's The House-Keeper's Pocket Book (1739). The result will be 'very short and good'. We appreciate her confidence!

Well, we're stumped: it turns out that our collection is rather light on the history of German baking. Instead we'll be eating a generous slice of this! @BritishBakeOff#GBBO#GermanWeek

It's #BreadWeek on @BritishBakeOff, and we're rising to the occasion (sigh) with Eliza Acton's 'The English Bread-Book'. Our copy contains a poetic inscription, addressed "To Mrs Downing with #EdmundBlunden's nourishing wishes, February 10th 1924" (see below). #GBBO 1/3
Crumbs, is it #BiscuitWeek already?
The Biscuit was a magazine edited by Etonians and containing stories, poems, cartoons and advertisements for local shops. It ran for two issues in 1914, until the Eton Chronicle branded it 'rather indigestible'! #GBBO

#GBBO is back! Our collection is jam-packed (sorry) with recipes that have been passed down through the generations. This bun recipe is recorded in a 17th-century manuscript household book. Would you make this today - and would you add saffron? @BritishBakeOff#cakeweek
This book once belonged to Sir Thomas Smith (1513-1577), Secretary of State to Elizabeth I. Smith was also a humanist scholar and prolific annotator. Most of his collection remains at his old Cambridge college, @Queens_Lib - but evidently not all!
He might not be the most majestic of lions, but this little fellow has been guarding this book for 500 years! Can you make him out? This blind-rolled lion perches on the initials 'G.G': Garrett Godfrey, the Cambridge bookbinder.

On #InternationalCatDay we simply had to share these illustrations by William Blake for Thomas Gray's 'Ode on the Death of a Favourite Cat Drowned in a Tub of Goldfishes.' Gray wrote the poem in 1747 after the demise of Horace Walpole's cat, Selima.
#Tokyo2020 has caught our imagination! We've been searching our collection for references to the #Olympics.
De Arte Gymnastica, Girolamo Mercuriale's study of sport and gymnastics in the ancient world, contains woodcuts which may or may not depict sports such as discus throw...
We're looking for an Assistant Librarian (PT, maternity cover) to work with our rare books and manuscripts. Closing on 23rd July!

#LadyJaneGrey, The Nine Day Queen, was deposed #OTD in 1553 and executed later that year. For centuries her story caught the imagination of countless storytellers, including William Harrison Ainsworth, author of 'The Tower of London' (1840). 1/2
As if we needed an excuse to celebrate #chocolate...it's #WorldChocolateDay!
This 18th-century advert for @TwiningsUk
promotes chocolate and #cocoa as well as #tea and #coffee. 216 the Strand is London's oldest tea shop and is still open today.
