Kid showed up 10 minutes late to practice last Thursday.
Freshman.
Third week on the team.
Still learning how everything works.
I didn't say anything.
Just moved the practice forward without him.
He jogged up, quiet, and slid into the back of the group.
Everyone kept moving.
During the cool-down, I saw two of our leaders pull him aside by the fence.
Couldn't hear what they said.
Didn't need to.
Just watched them talk — calm, serious, no raised voices.
The kid nodding.
Listening.
Thursday afternoon, 4:47 PM, my phone buzzes:
"Won't happen again, Coach. My bad."
I never tell new coaches this is what's possible because they don't believe me.
They think you have to enforce everything.
Make the call on every situation.
Be the one who holds the line.
But when your architecture is clear — when everyone understands what the goal demands — the team regulates itself.
Those leaders weren't doing me a favor.
They were protecting something they built.
I don't police alignment.
The standard does.
Today I learned about Yuta Tabuse, the first Japanese born NBA player. He played 17 career minutes across 4 games for the Suns in 2004, was waived that December, and never appeared in another NBA game.
Inexplicably, over a year later he got tossed onto an alternate Japanese release cover for NBA Live 06, a cover which I now desperately need. This HAS to be the most obscure cover athlete for a video game ever.
Murray State is getting a brand new clubhouse featuring a new locker room, player lounge, team meeting room, and training room. Also a new pitching lab and outdoor hitting facility
Huge for the Racers after their historic run to the College World Series last season
Genuinely feel bad for Josh Giddey
She had snuck into an 18+ club with a fake and lied to him about her age
There’s a reason the cops didn’t press charges and the family didn’t pursue it
But now Giddey has to deal with this shit for life
On my first day as a Freshman with the Vandy Baseball team, everyone's shirt was off, our body fat was tested along with a couple lifts
I repped 185 lbs on bench press 19x, tied for the team lead
One guy couldn't even get 1 rep. His name was David Price.
He went on to be picked #1 in the 2007 draft and made over $200M in 14 MLB seasons
Barbell bench press is not a lift baseball players need to do
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Charlie Kirk. He was a devoted husband and father, a powerful voice for freedom, and a courageous patriot. His commitment to elevating public discourse and championing free speech and debate inspired millions around the world. He was a great American who will be profoundly missed. Our hearts are with his family and loved ones.
On the antifragile Charlie Kirk influence: Tonight my 23 yo son came home from a long day of being an electrician apprentice then trade school. Out the door at 5:30 am back home at 8 pm . Showered. Ate dinner. Did push ups. Sat next to me and prayed aloud for Charlie’s family for 10 minutes without prompting. Listened to two worship songs including “Rise up O men of God.” Watched a short talk by Charlie while eating. Hugged me and said “I need to be like Charlie. God help me.” Went to bed. Something is happening with young men. Burn like fire. Pour like rain.

The sooner PBR and PG shift away from their current model and focus on the rising juniors/rising seniors and portal players the better off the baseball world will be. Sorry, but the 15U natty is pretty irrelevant right now.

Doing it for his dad on the biggest stage. 🥹
Playing in honor of his dad, Brian, who passed away just before his high school state championships his senior year. His dad was his biggest supporter.
