Friends in finance please check my numbers, but let's look at the price Infantino wants to sell the World Cup to the Trump mafia and others for.
• $4.2billion at a valuation of $20bn implies the sale of a 21% stake
• 11 days ago FIFA said it expected its 2023-26 revenues to ‘top $15billion’
• So that's $4.2bn to purchase 21% of ~$3.75bn of annual revenue. A multiple of 5.33x revenue
• In 2019, Silver Lake paid a multiple of 5.8x revenue to buy around 10% of City Football Group
• BlueCo paid a multiple of 4.9 to buy Chelsea in a UK-government-enforced sale
• Ineos paid a multiple of between 7 & 8 to buy 25% of Manchester United
• In 2025 a minority stake in MLS club Los Angeles FC sold at 7.9x revenue
• The company which owns UFC and WWE currently trades on a multiple of 6.2x revenue
• The last Major League Baseball franchise to change hands went for 5.3x revenue
• NFL's Washington Commanders recently sold for 10x revenue
• NBA's LA Lakers are in the process of being sold for ~16x revenue
The World Cup is the most popular sporting event humanity has ever developed. Some would argue it is our most important cross-cultural event.
As @rpmcomo often points out it has essentially zero acquisition costs for talent (compare that to other sports properties).
None of the football clubs above make anything vaguely approaching the profits of the World Cup, yet Gianni Infantino wants to sell football's crown jewel at a similar or lower valuation.
Either Infantino is stupid enough to be selling the World Cup at a price hugely under its true value, or he has a personal incentive to do exactly that...
Zlatan Ibrahimovic on to Gianni Infantino’s plan to sell stakes in the FIFA World Cup:
🗣️ “Listen to me carefully, because most of these people in suits have never understood the game and never will.
They create a subsidiary. Call it FIFA Forward Enterprise. Keep majority control on paper. Sell 20% to investors who have never smelled grass. Then wave $20 million in front of every federation and pretend it’s democracy.
That is not structure. That is a magic trick for lawyers. FIFA keeps the majority. FIFA keeps the board. FIFA keeps “exclusive authority” over governance, the calendar, the rules, everything that sounds important on paper. The investors get no operational role. They are only buying a slice of the cash machine. FIFA even says the investors are buying into the subsidiary, not into FIFA itself, so “nothing changes.”
I have seen this movie before. Nothing changes… until the numbers start talking. Once private money owns a permanent piece of the World Cup’s revenue, the pressure never stops. More tournaments. Bigger formats. Different calendar. Different priorities. Because investors do not care about the soul of the game. They care about return. And when the federations are already bought with the $20 million “gift” and the bigger Forward payments, who exactly is going to say no?
This is the same FIFA that spent decades selling the World Cup under the table. I remember the 2015 arrests. Swiss police walking into the hotel in Zurich and taking officials out in the early morning. Racketeering. Bribes. Money laundering. Hundreds of millions paid for television rights, for marketing rights, for World Cup votes. South Africa 2010. Qatar. The whole circus under Blatter. Jack Warner. Chuck Blazer singing to the Americans. Blatter and Platini banned for that $2 million “gentlemen’s agreement” that suddenly appeared when it was convenient. The Ethics Committee, the indictments, the years of “we are cleaning the house.”
And now the house is cleaner, they say. Now instead of brown envelopes and secret payments, we have subsidiaries, minority non-controlling stakes, permanent capital vehicles, JPMorgan valuations, and carefully selected long-term partners. Same hunger for money. Same system of buying loyalty from the 211 associations. Only the language got more expensive.
Infantino stands there and talks about democracy and opportunity. I am Zlatan. I do not need the $20 million and I do not need the speech. Most of these federations do need the money. That is exactly why this structure is dangerous. You are not offering development. You are offering a transaction: take the cash, vote yes by September, and stay quiet while pieces of the World Cup become private equity assets.
Football does not belong to FIFA. FIFA belongs to football. The moment you put shareholders inside the commercial heart of the World Cup and call it progress, you have already admitted the game is for sale. They just found a prettier way to write the contract this time.
I played at the highest level. I saw real power and real money. This is neither. This is bureaucracy protecting itself while selling the one thing that still belongs to the people who actually love the game.
Keep your structure. Keep your valuations. Keep your minority non-controlling stakes. The World Cup was never meant to have owners in suits. It was meant to be bigger than all of you.

Why we are contractually obliged to support Argentina this Wednesday 🇦🇷🏴
We’ve prepared this official guide so every Scot understands why Argentina’s footballing success is, in several important ways, partly our fault.
Failure to comply would be disrespectful to 130 years of very selective history.

What Joyce Carol Oates wrote to Elon Musk on Twitter. I am told it rattled him. I love it.
“So curious that such a wealthy man never posts anything that indicates that he enjoys or is even aware of what virtually everyone appreciates – scenes from nature, pet dog or cat, praise for a movie, music, a book (but doubt that he reads); pride in a friend’s or relative’s accomplishment; condolences for someone who has died; pleasure in sports, acclaim for a favorite team; references to history. In fact he seems totally uneducated, uncultured. The poorest persons on Twitter may have access to more beauty & meaning in life than the ‘most wealthy person in the world.’”
When the illusion finally shatters, what remains isn't disappointment,it's humiliation.
The man you poured your faith into was never a visionary, never a savior, never even remotely exceptional.
He was a hollow fraud wrapped in ego, fueled by noise, and sustained by endless self-promotion.
Every boast, every grand promise, every display of swagger crumbles the instant reality enters the room.
What looked like confidence was arrogance.
What looked like strength was insecurity.
What looked like leadership was little more than a carefully marketed illusion.
Scratch beneath the surface and there's no hidden brilliance, no master strategist, no misunderstood genius. Just an impulsive, self-absorbed figure stumbling from one failure to the next, desperately trying to drown incompetence in a torrent of bluster and spectacle.
In the end, the strongman image collapses into exactly what it always was: cheap theater.
A gaudy performance.
A caricature masquerading as leadership.
A salesman peddling an image he could never live up to.
And the hardest part isn't watching the act fall apart.
It's realizing how long you applauded it, defended it, and mistook obvious bullshit for substance.....
🚨BREAKING The Knights Templar Order and its ruling Council demand that this offensive and blasphemous image be removed forthwith !
We supported President Trump in 2016 and 2024 (NY Times attributed our support in 2016 to be part of his victory)
However we are deeply offended by this and have no other choice but to condemn it wholeheartedly and ask for a public apology to the Christian brethren who have been deeply upset by this depiction.
We respectfully remend President Trump of the Bible Scripture found in Galatians 6:7 "God will not be mocked"
"Don’t cry for Pam Bondi. She shed no tears for Alex Pretti and Renee Good. She shed no tears for the US Constitution that she helped light on fire. She shed no tears for the Epstein victims she betrayed with malice, incompetence and contemptible indifference."

Dear Argentina,
I am sorry your President is a MORON.
And I can't believe the current President of the United States (also a moron) gave your moronic President $20 BILLION of hardworking Americans tax dollars.
They are both clowns.
Powerful text from Bridget Brink:
I was U.S. ambassador to Ukraine. I resigned because of Trump's foreign policy.
I have proudly served five presidents ― to make sure the United States is the strongest, greatest country that the world has ever known.
