This is hillarious. Alice Weider, the leader of AfD, the far-right German party, heartily congratulated Mirra Andreeva, the Russian winner of the French Open. But Weider apparently forgot to congratulate the German winner of the same French open. The reason probably is that modern German nationalists care more to cater to the Kremlin line than anything else.
Putin is increasingly criticized at home for being weak as the Russian military offensive stalls and as Ukrainian midrange drones paralyze Russian logistics to Crimea and the rest of southern Ukraine.
So he delivered fireworks of psychological release to all these Russians who want to see Kyiv burn. At least 11 Ukrainian civilians killed, more still under the rubble.
Near-zero impact on Ukraine’s ability and determination to wage the war, of course.
And yes, the civilian deaths could have been avoided if Raytheon were making more Patriot interceptors and if Trump were willing to sell more of them to Ukraine. Or if MBDA and Thales weren’t still making SAMP-T missiles in homeopathic doses, on year five of the war.
Not coincidentally, this attack is underway shortly after the U.S. delayed delivery of air defense missiles to Ukraine and after Zelensky wrote an urgent appeal to Trump writing, "I ask for your help in protecting Ukraine's skies from Russian missiles."
Donald Trump just stole $1.7B from us — and he's creating a slush fund to reward his political allies.
I've never seen anything like this in my 50 years in politics.
It makes Nixon look like a boy scout.

Today’s Supreme Court decision effectively guts a key pillar of the Voting Rights Act, freeing state legislatures to gerrymander legislative districts to systematically dilute and weaken the voting power of racial minorities - so long as they do it under the guise of “partisanship” rather than explicit “racial bias.” And it serves as just one more example of how a majority of the current Court seems intent on abandoning its vital role in ensuring equal participation in our democracy and protecting the rights of minority groups against majority overreach.
The good news is that such setbacks can be overcome. But that will only happen if citizens across the country who cherish our democratic ideals continue to mobilize and vote in record numbers - not just in the upcoming midterms or in high profile races, but in every election and every level.
At the request of the Russian government, @Apple removed numerous VPN services from the App Store - tools that had allowed Russians to bypass censorship. A remarkable stroke of luck for Putin to have such “friends” in Big Tech. Over the past few years, Russian authorities have blocked millions of websites, including independent media and opposition platforms. VPNs are now one of the few remaining ways for Russians to access truthful reporting on current events. Yet Apple has chosen to assist state censorship in Russia.
In 40 minutes, Donald said: the Strait of Hormuz isn't closed, but he wants it reopened; we’re not at war with Iran, but our allies are cowards for not helping; he wants a ceasefire, but he doesn’t want one. He also declared victory three times.
Such clarity. Such leadership.
Israel’s government is “selling the public a dangerous illusion: that military force alone can dismantle Hizbullah”, says a former Israeli military commander in a guest essay. “Exercising force without a strategy is not victory. It is political failure” https://t.co/LVximbqMGc
