지금 새롭게 출발선에 선 사람이 있다.
엔하이픈 희승에서 솔로 뮤지션 에반으로, 그렇게 오롯이 자신의 목소리로 새 장을 여는 중이다.
에반은 음악마다 하나의 '실'이 있고, 그 실로 연결되는 단단한 순간을 믿는다.
그리고 직접 쓰고 부른 데뷔 싱글 〈Ride or Die〉에 그가 붙잡은 첫 번째 실을 담았다.

Q. 최근 인스타그램을 개설했죠. 몇 없는 게시 물을 보다, 한강에서 끝내주는 하루를 보낸 사진들을 발견했습니다.
A. 하하. 어릴 때부터 한강을 좋아했어요. 연습생 때는 힐링이 필요할 때 갔다면, 지금은 그냥 마실 나가는 느낌이에요. 따릉이를 타거나, 편의점에서 혼밥을 하거나. 강가에 앉아 뭘 먹으면서 멍하니 보고 있으면 기분이 좋아지거든요.
라면에 핫바, 삼각김밥. 실패 없는 조합이죠.

Q. 최근 가장 나답게 보낸 하루는 언제였어요?
A. 대부분 일하면서 보내긴 했는데요. 워라밸이라는 말을 별로 좋아하지 않아요. 일과 삶을 너무 구분하면 마치 일이 삶의 적처럼 느껴지더라고요. 그래서 둘 사이를 유연하게 오가는 날을 좋아해요. 세션도 하고 연습도 하다가, 한강에 가서 영감을 충전하고 돌아오는 날 같은 거죠.

Q. 요즘은 '처음'인 게 부쩍 많은 날들일 듯해요.
A. 네. 저 자신을 새롭게 알게 되는 것도, 배워야 할 것도 많아요.
그만큼 이뤄내야 할 숙제도 많고요. 그런데 그게 감사해요.

Q. 엔하이픈의 희승에서 솔로 뮤지션 에반으로 새로운 출발선에 서게 됐어요. 지금 설렘과 걱정 중 어느 쪽이 더 앞서나요?
A. 둘 다 있어요. 걱정도 되고, 기대도 되고요. 그런데 걱정은 최대한 오래 붙들고 있지 않으려고 해요. 그런 기분이 상시 들긴 하지만요. 오히려 좋은 자극이라 생각하고 있어요.

Q. 새로운 시작에는 용기가 필요하잖아요. 가보지 않은 길이니까요. 그럼에도 에반을 움직인 건 무엇이었어요?
A. 창작에 대한 욕구가 가장 컸던 것 같아요. 그리고 나를 제대로 깊이 알아보고 싶다는 마음도 있었고요. 그런 자극들이 제 주변에 계속 있었던 것 같아요.

Q. 과거에도 프로듀싱을 하는 이유에 대해 "나를 이해하고 싶어서"라고 답한 적이 있죠.
A. 맞아요. 지금은 그걸 하나씩 실현해가는 과정 같아요. 저도 몰랐던 제 취향이나 가능성을 여러 면에서 발견하고 있거든요. 그런 것들이 하나씩 쌓이면서 새로운 결과물이 나오는 것 같아요. 저한테는 그 과정 자체가 좋은 자극이 돼요.

Q. 최근 새롭게 발견한 나의 의외의 모습이 있다면요?
A. 제가 생각보다 몸이 약해요. 그런데 또 잡초예요(웃음). 아무리 굴리고 혹사시켜도 그걸 버텨내더라고요. 저도 최근에 알았어요. 생각보다 제가 질기더라고요.

Q. 6월 22일, 데뷔 싱글 <Ride or Die>가 나와요. 두 개의 트랙이 수록됐는데, 우선 타이틀곡 'Ride or Die'의 감상부터 말하자면, 좀 놀랐어요. 장르가 록이라서요. 그간 에반의 알앤비 커버에 익숙했던 터라, 설마 록을 들고나올 거라곤 생각지 못했어요.
A. 첫 세션 때 나온 곡이에요. 사실 그전까지는 록에 대한 이해도가 높은 편은 아니었어요. 그러다 유튜브로 에이브릴 라빈과 라디오헤드 무대를 봤는데, 완전히 꽂힌 거죠. 어떻게 보면 욕심으로 만든 노래예요. 내가 잘하는 장르인지 따지기 전에, 그냥 너무 좋으니까 '일단 해보자' 했던 거죠. 요즘은 화려하고 완벽하게 믹싱된 음악이 많잖아요. 저도 사실 그런 음악을 주로 들어왔어요. 그런데 밴드 음악은 뭐랄까 오가닉하고, 또 원초적이라 느껴지더라고요. 그게 저한테 훅 다가온 순간이 있었어요.

Q. Ride or Die'는 '끝까지 간다'는 뜻이잖아요. 꽤 화끈한 러브 송 제목이에요.
A. 문장이 주는 메시지가 엄청 세죠. 그래서 꼭 써야겠다 싶었고요. 또 실제 제가 자주 해온 생각이기도 해요. 여러 과정을 겪으면서도 저를 응원해주는 팬분들을 보면서 '아, 내가 이분들은 끝까지 데리고 가야겠다'라고 생각한 게 출발점이거든요.
