GPT-6 Sol might be OpenAI’s answer to the massive demand for Astra.

I don’t expect it to be much better than GPT-5.6 Sol, it could mainly be faster and easier to scale.

Astra already needs a lot of compute, so we should definitely be pushed toward Sol to handle the demand.

Confirmed, OpenAI paused new sign ups on its x20 Pro plan.

A lot of those users are probably switching to Claude now.

To make sure our current users have an incredible experience and continued access to Astra, we are going to pause subscriptions to our $200 Pro plan. These put the most strain on our systems and we wanted to take the smallest step that allows us to continue giving the broadest access possible. All other plans and the api remain available.

There is no impact to existing accounts and we are working on adding more capacity as fast as we can. Thanks!

So, is it actually happening?

OpenAI is temporarily restricting its 20x plan, is it in the rolling out phase or is it some kind of edit, i checked but it is still available to purchase.

If this rolling out is true, is this the time people start looking at claude max plan instead?

When coding, I often skip mentioning some instructions while prompting. Astra does ask sometimes, but only rarely, and most of the time it just assumes what I meant and runs with it on its own.

Fable is different. It actually asks me almost every time, giving a few options and waiting for my answer before continuing.

Since I'm a bit lazy to spell out every detail, Fable's habit of asking works better for me. It ends up giving me the output I actually wanted, while Astra just assumes something on its own and goes ahead in that direction, which isn't always what I meant.

In coding, xHigh tends to burn through usage faster than Medium, and it ended up using more than twice the usage for the same tasks.

So it seems higher effort saving usage might only apply to certain task types, not regular coding work.

One Pro 20x user ran xHigh for an hour and used only 2% of their weekly usage, while Medium drained it much faster, and others said they saw the same thing. After checking the logs, they found Medium made 122 responses vs 65 on xHigh and burned usage about twice as fast.

If you really want to try Astra, don’t go for the Plus plan or even the 5x Pro plan. Both seem like nothing compared to how much Astra can consume. Just go directly for Pro 20x.

OpenAI is already struggling with Astra’s demand, so I don’t think the usage limits are going to increase anytime soon. If you want to use Astra without interruptions, Pro 20x is the way to go.

And don’t buy extra usage either. Even $10 can disappear within 10 minutes if you use Astra.

Demand for Astra is really unprecedented. We're pulling all the levers possible to sustain the demand, but I've not seen anything like it until now and we went through very steep growth before. Priority will always be to keep excellent service for existing users, but we might have to pause new Pro subscriptions for a bit if this continues.

I assume Anthropic may lift the 50% limit for Max users to use Fable, after OpenAI said they might pause new Pro subscriptions because of the Astra demand.

Every time OpenAI stumbles Anthropic drops something.
