Radical Environmentalist Group Hit with $660 MILLION in Damages for Destructive Protests
A North Dakota jury has found the environmental group Greenpeace liable for more than $660 MILLION in damages and defamation for the 2016 to 2017 Standing Rock protests against the Dakota Access Pipeline.
The lawsuit is a win for the oil and gas pipeline company Energy Transfer, which filed a lawsuit in 2019 seeking $300 million, alleging Greenpeace orchestrated protests, spread false information, and caused financial harm through property damage and lost revenue.
After a three-week trial, the jury took two days to reach its verdict. Energy Transfer argued Greenpeace coordinated protest activities, brought in outside protesters, and made defamatory statements about the pipeline.
The company’s attorney described the decision as a validation that destructive protest is unlawful.
Meanwhile, organized Tesla protests around the United States have led to the torching of cars at dealerships, intimidation of EV car owners, and market manipulation.
Just something for @ElonMusk and @Tesla to think about.
