Become?
*Remain*.
And what drives it more than anything else is fundamental (blue-sky, risky, mould-breaking) research – for which, increasingly in recent years, the system has had no place.
@anneapplebaum Back to philosophy basics: people DO NOT, in their subjective understanding, live/interact with a real objective world. They live (in terms of conscious decisions) in THEIR representation/understanding of the objective world. And that understanding/representation can be shaped.
@kathleenplante @anneapplebaum Being highly trained, like e.g. medical doctors are trained, does not necessarily mean "educated" in terms of wielding the whole machinery of understanding the objective world.
"Education" understood as "sophisticated trade training" can be no different from a sect programming.

I've just started reading Bertrand Russell - 'The problem of philosophy'
@DavidDeutschOxf Hi David, please could you recommend a book or paper I could read to get a better (first principles) understanding of what a belief or idea is, it’s lifecycle, environment and some effective tools and techniques for testing/validating ideas
@LKrauss1 Hi Lawrence, please could you recommend a book or paper I could read to get a better (first principles) understanding of what a belief or idea is, it’s lifecycle, environment and some effective tools and techniques for testing/validating ideas

Why is it that the part of my brain that's supposed to come alive and be engaged with excitement at sports is instead occupied by awe, curiosity and wonder at math, science, philosophy & music and I am content
If Bruce Banner retains his original mass when he expands to become the Hulk, then his body must become less dense. If so, then in his Hulked state, he'd have the density of a champagne cork. I’m just sayin’.
Not that anybody asked, but Superman's Krypton home star system is LHS-2520, an actual red dwarf star in the southern constellation of Corvus, The Crow. But also, a Crow is the Mascot of Smallville High.

Left unchecked, 1,000 rabbits in 5 years, become 7-billion, the human population of the World.
After 15 years, a "land-ocean” of rabbits fills to one-kilometer depth across all of Earth’s continents.
Viruses can reproduce waaaay faster than Rabbits.
@neiltyson how does combustion/explosions work in space? e.g. is it fair to say, hydrogen is the fuel and instead of an oxidiser we have pressure driven by gravity causing fusion?
