A new PhD started today. She asked for general advice for the first few months. This was my advice:
1. Donโt work evenings or weekends
2. Donโt aim to prove yourself (to me), Iโm already convinced of your capacities
3. Go for a walk when things dazzle you (1/3)
For me its time to leave X.
Can I find you on ๐ฆ? Like this message and I will look for you there.
Thanks for all the great interactions ๐๐ป. This account has helped me get through a tough time recovering from a car accident. I wish you great PhD times & Happy supervisors!
Gentle reminder: donโt wait too long with sending a draft to your supervisor(s) for feedback. Getting their feedback in an early stage is more efficient than having to change a lot when you already thought you had almost finished a piece.

Do your future self (and your supervisor) a favour and KEEP NOTES of your experiments!
Writing up the methods section for a study we started a few years ago... I'd be lost without my notes!

Advice for PhD Candidates:
1. Choose a supportive advisor.
2. Seek sincere connections, not just "networking."
3. Papers open doors; ethics and meaningful connections open the right ones.
4. Stay connected to your initial motivation.
5. Your actions define you, not your title.
What an honor to be invited to share these tips for the junior researchers of @EarliSig1.
And special thanks to my costar, Happy PhD Student @CJMTielemans, and @Niels6434847779 for opening up about their highs and lows of doing a PhD.
