The reason I don't like this analogy is that Pokemon and One Piece are the outliers, not the norm
Many major brands don't have collectibles that are worth tens of thousands of dollars
Yet NFTs already trade at these valuations as if they've achieved mainstream adoption
Mainstream hates NFTs
Even many web3 people laugh at the fact that I still spend so much time talking about / trading them
Even if they are successful and become globally renown, there's no guarantee that NFTs will be the asset that's sought after. It might be the cards, game skins or something else they release
I'd personally like to see teams, many of which have made tens of millions of dollars selling NFTs + collecting royalties, support their floors with future revenues
(I'm aware that the current pudgy team made $0 selling NFTs)
Not asking for a sweep, that would only be a pump and dump. Instead, build up a treasury where you commit to buying an asset for every X$ made in revenue
Purchases can be auto-handled by a contract, and the amount can fluctuate based on asset floor price
But 99% of teams won't do this
Their goal (and their investors goal) is to increase the company value to get to an exit or IPO
Using funds to support the floor doesn't help achieve this
This is why NFTs announcing partnerships with major brands, putting their logo on a racecar or appearing on the Vegas Sphere has no effect on the floor
It's cool, but if I'm down $50k on my holdings, it's not as cool
I don't celebrate when Tim Cook's net worth goes up, but if Apple is doing stock buybacks and I hold their stock, you can bet I'll be supporting their every move and rooting for increased earnings
NFT communities have been used for funding + free marketing for 5 years
Yet team/investor and community incentives still aren't aligned
