the uk government's official ai guidance tells civil servants to use gemini flash instead of pro, keep prompts short, and not say thank you to it, for the environment
i do wonder at which point we forked the road. instead of building and using it to automate the work, we write guidance on how to use less of it
we have the attitude of a high school prefect. caring more about the rules than actually doing the work

BREAKING!! SAUDI ARABIA CANCELS OIL SHIPMENTS TO EUROPE
Saudi Arabia has informed European customers that some late-September crude shipments are being cancelled following the closure of the East-West pipeline.
This is not a minor disruption. The pipeline has been carrying 4–5 million barrels per day (approx 4–5% of global oil supply) and has become a critical alternative route while shipping through the Strait of Hormuz remains severely disrupted.
Europe is particularly vulnerable as the EU imports roughly 97% of its crude oil, with Saudi Arabia accounting for about 6.8% of EU crude imports last year.
The market is already reacting. Brent surged to around $108 per barrel today, and analysts warn a prolonged supply disruption could send oil above $120.
Europe was already dealing with elevated energy costs. Now another major artery supplying its energy market is being squeezed.
#Ireland's wind build is one of the great energy success stories in Europe.
It did not replace the gas.
In 2000, coal was 28.9% of Irish electricity and wind was 1.1%.

@Snz_BTC@gladstein Tell me more about the arbitrary guardrails? Which area do you specifically see it performing better? I'm finding that the deeper we get the harder it is to see any difference in everyday or not complex business tasks (data analysis + report writing etc)
We taught a generation to type Google search terms. The bit about reading the results never made it. #AI's the same shape, bigger stakes. https://t.co/ykhIpJaZjE
@Snz_BTC Yes but it will be interesting to see how the government reacts when these companies start reporting dropping sales and the "stock market is in danger sir" when facing Chinese equally, or more-capable LLMs being released left and right.
@nialljburke@Conor21m Of course. Do a basic split between government and private sector and you'll see how much in taxes and hidden charges goes to the government. Yet suppliers get the blame. And they are the ones who are at risk especially in turbulent times energy markets are going through now.
@countablyfinite The type of honesty we need. Mine told me the idea is nothing special and listed 10 other similar projects and said I'm better off doing something else. 😂
New in Claude Code (research preview): dynamic workflows.
Claude writes an orchestration script on the fly, then spins up a large fleet of coordinated subagents in parallel to take on your most complex tasks.
Use the word "workflow" in a prompt to get started.
