A 8-year-old girl died after being forced to do 100 sit-ups by her teacher as punishment for arriving late to school. Her family says she was made to do the sit-ups while wearing her schoolbag, which worsened her condition. She later fell sick, was hospitalized and passed away. A preliminary post-mortem indicated she had anemia, raising concerns about her health before the punishment.

Eric, you again twisting half-truths into political theatre- so let’s deal with this properly.
Malaysia’s Manufacturing PMI for October stood at 49.5 - yes, slightly below the neutral 50 mark, meaning a mild contraction. But here’s what you won’t tell - 49.5 is the highest level since May & the closest to expansion in 16 months. That’s a sign of stabilisation, not deterioration.
Eric let me tell you & your team, what is PMI anyway? Please take note-
PMI (Purchasing Managers’ Index) is not a govt number. It’s published every month by S&P Global, an independent international research house. They survey hundreds of purchasing managers in private manufacturing companies - asking about new orders, production, employment, supply times & inventories - then calculate a composite index.
Above 50 = expansion, below 50 = contraction.
So when the index moves from 47 to 49 to 49.5, it signals the slowdown is easing & factories are preparing for recovery.
Now you shout- "35 out of 36 months of contraction under Madani!" - but let’s check reality.
PMI began sliding in mid-2021, well before the Madani govt existed. That downturn followed the post-Covid global correction, supply-chain shocks, & the electronics super-cycle collapse. Every major manufacturing economy - China, Taiwan, South Korea, Germany, even the U.S. - went through the same contraction phase. Malaysia was no exception.
In October 2025, China’s own manufacturing PMI also softened, & several ASEAN peers that looked strong in September began cooling. Indonesia & Thailand posted temporary domestic-demand boosts, not sustainable export rebounds. Vietnam’s index only barely crossed 50. So to single out Malaysia as "the only shrinking economy" is a deliberate distortion.
Let’s also look at what The Edge Malaysia article itself says (which you conveniently cropped)-
"Despite softer conditions, business confidence improved to its highest since April 2023."
That line alone destroys your entire narrative. It means firms expect demand to pick up - not collapse - over the coming quarters.
What’s driving the optimism?
Because while the monthly PMI reads 49.5, the investment pipeline is at record highs-
Total approved investments 2023 – Q3 2025 exceed RM 330 billion.
Massive inflows in semiconductors, EVs, solar, renewable energy, & data-centre infrastructure.
Global names like Tesla suppliers, Infineon, Intel, Microsoft, & AWS are all expanding in Malaysia.
PMI doesn’t capture this - it’s a sentiment snapshot, not a measure of FDI inflow or factory construction. So quoting PMI without context is like judging a football season from one minute of injury time.
E&E exports are still recovering from a two-year down-cycle, but forward orders from the U.S. & ASEAN are rising. Meanwhile, the ringgit’s competitiveness is supporting non-E&E sectors — food processing, palm-oil derivatives, & precision machinery. Domestic demand, especially construction & services, continues to cushion manufacturing softness.
The World Bank & IMF both project Malaysia’s GDP growth at around 4.3 % – 4.5 % for 2025, with recovery momentum into 2026. That doesn’t happen in an economy "collapsing" the way you describes Eric.
Take note - the Madani Govt has reduced net borrowings from RM 97 billion (2022) to RM 81 billion (2025 YTD) while keeping debt aroun 65 % of GDP. Inflation is low, OPR steady at 2.75 %. These macro indicators show policy discipline, not chaos.
Eric, you repeated "35 months of red" claim is statistically dishonest. You counts the entire global slump as if it were the govt’s doing - when even advanced economies went through worse. The truth- Malaysia’s manufacturing is bottoming out & moving toward a slow recovery phase, not "stuck in contraction forever."
Ironically, the same companies surveyed for PMI also report stronger hiring intentions for 2026 & new automation investments. That aligns with the govt’s industrial masterplan & digital-transition push.
You call it "smearing," I call it selective amnesia. You cherry-picks one number, ignores global context, ignores forward data, & pretend to be the nation’s economic conscience while peddling political talking points recycled from 2018.
Let me be blunt-Malaysia’s manufacturing challenges are real, but they are structural & global, not "Madani-made." The recovery will take time, but the direction is turning positive -& even neutral observers like BIMB Securities & TA Research confirm it.
So to every reader of Eric’s post- understand that PMI 49.5 not failure - it means stabilisation & improving confidence. The real story is Malaysia re-tooling its industrial base for the next growth cycle, powered by renewable energy, chip-packaging, & digital infrastructure - not some imagined collapse.
My dear Eric one more thing,
You’re fortunate Malaysia protects freedom of expression, even for chronic pessimists. You can spin, smear & dramatise daily without fear of being silenced. That’s democracy. But remember - if you tried this same routine in China or North Korea, your "economic analysis" would end before the first tweet finished uploading.
So maybe appreciate the fact that the very country you keep tearing down still gives you the liberty to do it - safely, openly, & freely.
Because unlike your commentary, Malaysia’s resilience is real.
