Oyster reefs facilitate bioturbation in surrounding sediments. You can read all about it here: https://t.co/Md33SSqYvu. Also, a sneak peek of upcoming work, these same bioturbators drive nutrient cycling around reefs. Stay tuned, a lot more to come @SydneySOLES@harbourprogram
Dear anatomists and medical people,
I took this thermal image of my feet and discovered my left middle toe is significantly warmer than my right middle toe. Why? Different vasculature/circulation? Is this asymmetry common in feet? Many thanks in advance!
Amazing take over from the @harbourprogram group and their awesome army of postgrads!! If you haven’t seen today’s feed at @themarinediary you better go and check it out! Really great and key research on the intertidal remnant Sydney rock oyster reefs of Australia!
Microbes may be small, but their effects on #oysterreef nutrient cycling are substantial! @DrKDafforn studies how microbial communities mediate #denitrification pathways, by using these custom-built #benthicchambers … (1/3)
How does landscape context affect epifaunal assemblage and #predation on oyster reefs? @DR_GRIB’s students Ruby and Josee are finding out by building and distributing oyster cages in #seagrass, #mangrove, and bare sediment habitats … (1/2)
What factors influence recruitment on #oysterreefs? 🔎🤔 PhD student @rickleong has been setting up recruitment tiles on remnant oyster reefs to see if sediment deposition plays a role. So far, he’s found drivers of #settlement are site-specific! @DR_GRIB@DRABugnot
Australian #oysterreef habitat has declined drastically since pre-colonisation times. Our focus is studying the funamendal #ecology of our remnant oystereefs in order to provide guidelines for future #restoration efforts @GribbenLab https://t.co/auszpiD27I
Last (but not least) PhD paper is finally out! 🌊🌊🌊
Intact canopy --> turf --> invasive alga
Positive and Negative Species Interactions Shape Recruitment Patterns of a Range Expanding Native Alga https://t.co/GgO0qNYCiQ @DR_GRIB
A great PhD opportunity for a student interested in marine plants and how below-ground processes (e.g. plant-soil feedbacks) controls their health and resilience/resistance to environmental stress . Link to the application is here https://t.co/piH37MOVg4. @unswcmsi@unswbees
