Some personal news: I've just had my farewell cake at @canberratimes which means it's official. It's been an incredible experience leading & transforming its federal political bureau, public service & defence. A team with enormous talent, now increasing getting noticed.
@eamonhamilton@TheBaseLeg Doubtful. Sadly, she's also fallen in with the COVID origins conspiracy crowd, echoing propaganda talking points from another autocratic regime with a long record of jailing journalists.
You'll still see my name on some articles here and there, but study will be my focus this year. Need to finish a masters, and maybe more. I might actually see my Hubby more often.

@JuliaPillai There's been more freakout than not if there's a balance of power or leadership issue. eg Mal Colston, Meg Lees, Peter Slipper, Craig Thomson, Craig Kelly. Thorpe doesn't move the dial through, so let's just admit its racism.
@dallastexjr I arrived a few years after the setting, but tingled with recognition as it unfolded & departed from I originally through was going to be a straightforward Dickens update. Did the beat murders play any inspiration in the Carver? Or did that come from something else?
@dallastexjr Just finished reading your debut. Loved the characters and the transformation of Dillion through the novel. But especially how real the Cross felt on the page. Thank you for writing it.
@timpiccione An overdue discussion. That data on Defence Force members' religion comes from a 2019 ADF census. Next one occurs in April. Given the generational shift on religion in the 2021 Australian Census, we can expect the ADF to similarly become even less Christian.
A monumental vote in the Australian @AuSenate which just passed legislation allowing more than half a million territorians (ACT & NT) to decide weighty matters like voluntary assisted dying for themselves. Democracy!

@V8Sheppard During the launch press tour I felt so proud that none of the professional journos asked the lead actors about their own sexuality. The abuse they got later was awful. They're actors but still kids, leave them be.
reminder: protecting queer people who aren’t “out” will always be more important than your desire to prove yourself as some kind of morally righteous judge of strangers’ lives and identity
@CoreySinclair Absolutely. Despite historical 'naming and shaming' and other rot from some news outlets, ACON had greater respect for news media's role than any other organisation I worked with at the Star Observer. That MW segment was misjudged.
@JennaPrice Your perseverance to report on an issue of major public importance - not just yesterday, but over the last 10 years - is a largess to us all.
@RJSalmond Deleted my account during a job switch, told my new employer 'I can't be on FB' just ominously enough to discourage further questions. Unintended benefit: didn't have to follow pollie misadventures in uncooked chicken curry.
No one wants Putin to have face-saving exit clauses, but we also don't want a nuclear conflagration - they're both ugly options.
I'm for supporting Ukraine in a measured way. I'm careful about how far we push it. Thanks for the chat, @harleyd

Liberal @SenatorHume has given a powerful speech on territory rights & voluntary assisted dying. Citing her father's choice to die: "As he died peacefully, as he died painlessly, as he died willingly, in the matter in which he wanted, it was a very beautiful death." #auspol
