‘To Kill a War Machine’
Filmmakers Statement

Between January - June 2025, We produced the independent feature length documentary ‘ To Kill a War Machine’ on 5 years of Palestine Action’s operations to dismantle UK based arms factories supplying weapons to Israel.

At Rainbow Collective, we have spent over 20 years documenting grass roots struggles for equality and social justice in the UK and around the world. Our aim has always been to centre the voices of the people leading these struggles as a counterbalance to the prevailing narratives in the mainstream press, be that in England, Bangladesh, Cambodia or anywhere else we
have worked.

The action sequences in ‘To Kill a War Machine’ use footage shot and released online 2020-2025, by Palestine Action and others. We combined this existing footage with our own interviews with actionists, family members, supporters and journalists and an international lawyer to tell the story of Palestine Action’s rise and the effectiveness of their actions in the context of the UK’s rich history of direct action protest.

The threatened proscribing of Palestine Action, potentially as soon as next week, means that it may soon be illegal to distribute this film in the UK. This is despite the film being produced legally and legitimately and its certification by the British Board of Film Classification.

We believe that our independently produced film is of value creatively, journalistically and socially and that it should not be a criminal offence for us to distribute it in the UK.

We will continue taking legal advice over the coming days to ensure that ‘To Kill a War Machine’ is distributed for as long and as far as is possible within the law.

Finally, we believe that the government’s intention to proscribe Palestine Action is an egregious abuse of state power which should be urgently reconsidered.
