Don’t conflate issues. Renovating government accommodation isn't the problem here. It is also not possible to create hostel space for every student. What is possible is that people who are raking in tons of money by building these death traps are made to follow all building codes and cater for fire safety etc. Thats the job of MCD and Delhi government to ensure that regulations are followed. And if the are not followed, then these death traps (and I include those fancy Khan Market restaurants) should be sealed and officers under whose watch these death traps came up, and under whose watch they continued to function are thrown in jail and the key is thrown away. Linking this with government housing is to give the blood sucking landlords and corrupt and venal municipal officers an exit route.
