I am STRONG advocate for a Developmental Trauma Disorder Diagnosis in the DSM to avoid all of the mis-diagnoses that are happening to children with complex trauma.
A proper dx would provide treatment without the huge risk of harm for those with a trauma background.
Therapists and Social Workers, do y’all ever get tired of talking? Like you’ve talked so much that it feels physically and mentally taxing to talk and you don’t want to say peep out of your mouth for at least 3 days at a time?
I received an Autism diagnosis today and I am celebrating!
Grateful for the privilege of getting an assessment and grateful for hope and a path forward! No more gaslighting from providers and I can find a validating outpatient team! Here’s to (hopefully) coming out of burnout!
@DrDoyleSays I don’t know why I’m even surprised anymore, given we have an entire thread compiled of concerning content of his at this point. 😵💫😵💫😵💫
@teachechick@Autistic_at_40 I am struggling with burnout and skill regression lately and it is frustrating and kind of terrifying to be honest. I don’t feel like myself anymore and I’m finding it hard to function in my roles.
@Autistic_at_40 This can lead to Autistic Burnout. My experience is a high frequency of catatonic episodes often caused by small things. It is like I am an elastic band that has been being stretched all my life and now I have snapped. However, I can’t seem to be put in a bin.
I keep thinking there should be a specific name for the type of trauma that is being disabled, and seriously struggling for so long, but never having the information that you’re disabled or the nature of your disability. Is it called anything specific?
3. Reparent yourself: the best way to do this is through soothing self talk. You might be saying "I'm such an idiot" "I'm worthless" on a regular basis. Practice saying things like: "I am safe" "I can do hard things" "I can trust myself"
"Therapists who do not understand Autistic experience will often employ behavioural strategies and infer thought patterns that are overtly incorrect."

Despite posting this on my socials, my parents still decided to post homophobic content this week. It’s hard to imagine my parents would rather be be dead than gay, but here we are.
People who find out they’re autistic in adulthood were not OK before this point. I am yet to speak to a late identified autistic person - whether or not they were ever able to mask at any level - who was OK. Very far from it. Imagine being disabled and it not being recognised 😶
Are you a helping professional who knows how important it is to label feelings? Have you, like me, been dissatisfied with the feeling wheels out there?
Look no further 🤩
