As someone who’s shared the grind of Indian domestic cricket, I watched today’s performance by Rohit and Virat with a mix of admiration and emotion.
At the Sydney Cricket Ground, they treated us all to a masterclass. Rohit’s unbeaten 121 and Virat’s composed 74 not out drove India to a nine-wicket victory after Australia were bundled out for 236.
What struck me was the timing, the poise, and the symbolism. Rohit, often in the spotlight, showed that even under transitions and questions, experience still has punch.
Virat, ever the competitor, showed heart and clarity, as his knock felt like one of legacy, one of closing a chapter while still playing with fire.
From the first partnership they built, you could sense they were in sync, thinking the same way, assessing, adapting, and executing.
In the middle overs, when Australia looked for momentum, they never allowed it. Instead, Rohit cut loose, Virat anchored, and the chase became inevitable. The 168-run stand between them spoke volumes.
On a personal level, I feel for the younger guys watching this today. This is the standard. This is what a great cricketer delivers when the moment is heavy, when expectations silence the external noise. Rohit and Virat reminded us that beyond tactics and metrics, it’s about intent and presence.
For me, as someone who continues to turn the page into new roles in the sport, today’s performance was a reminder. Success in cricket is about standing tall when the moment demands leadership and craft.
Thanks to Rohit and Virat for delivering that reminder in style.

After stage separation, Super Heavy flipped in a controlled direction for the first time. This maneuver requires less propellant to be held in reserve and enables additional payload mass to orbit
There are some farewells that don’t feel like an ending. They feel like a punch to the gut. @imVkohli
My 4 year old believes he’s the greatest cricketer of this generation and he’s not wrong. Maybe, one day, he will grow up and question the stats (which are not modest at all) and that’s when I’ll tell him the stories.
The story of that second innings 141 at Adelaide in 2014. Chasing 364 for victory.
Of 235 vs England in Mumbai, 2016
where Kohli grinded for nearly nine hours.
Of 149 at Edgbaston, 2018
when he played out of his skin.
Because what he gave us can’t be measured in numbers.
‘For 60 overs, they should feel like hell’ will ring in the annals of Indian Test cricket for a long time.
He made us into an all conditions Test team.
He built the greatest pace attack this country has ever seen.
He made Test cricket the real deal. The prized possession. The ultimate price. In a world which rewards click bait, he made a hard work SEXY
I have so much to say
but somehow, words don’t feel enough.
Kohli in Tests wasn’t just cricket.
He was an emotion.
Kohli didn’t just play Test cricket.
He elevated it.
Test cricket will go on.
But for an Indian cricket nut..
It may never feel quite this personal again.
I am not going to say “Thank you, King’
Because I’m not ready. Not yet.
