Exact tien jaar geleden ging Nederland naar de stembus en bijna twee derde stemde tegen het EU-associatieverdrag met Oekraïne onder andere omdat gevreesd werd dat dit verdrag zou kunnen leiden tot oorlog met Rusland.

De uitslag werd genegeerd.

Het referendum werd afgeschaft.

Lviv, 1941.

A young Jewish woman sits on the pavement, stripped naked, surrounded by a hostile crowd.

She tries to cover herself with her hands; her clothes lie discarded beside her. People stand and watch. One person reaches down toward her head as she looks directly into the lens.

Look at her face.

There is fear, shock, and profound humiliation. But beneath the cruelty surrounding her, there is something immutable:

her fundamental humanity.
She had a name.
A family.
A home.

People who loved her.

A future she was never allowed to claim.

The image was captured on 8mm film by German personnel. Later discovered by U.S. forces in an SS barracks in Augsburg, the footage is now preserved in Holocaust archives—a permanent record of an atrocity that was meant to be forgotten.

Before the Holocaust, more than 200,000 Jews called Lviv home. Under Nazi occupation, that community was systematically persecuted, deported, and murdered. Only a fraction survived.

During the 1941 pogroms, Jewish men, women, and children were targeted relentlessly, with women subjected to targeted, public degradation.

This photograph captures more than physical violence. It captures the mechanics of dehumanization—the deliberate, witnessed destruction of a human being's dignity.
We may never learn this woman’s name.

We may never know her final moments.

But by looking at her face, we refuse the ultimate aim of her tormentors: to erase her from memory.

We remember that she was someone.

Imagine many young people gathering together in the desert for a music peace festival.

Imagine many young people gathering together dance and sing and just enjoy the moment.

Imagine another group of people hunting these young people down.

Imagine hundreds of these young people being raped, butchered, shot indiscriminately, stabbed to death, burned alive, blown up by grenades thrown into shelters, massacred.

Imagine dozens of these young people broken, tortured, severely wounded, then kidnapped and dragged back to an almost equal hell as they’ve just been through.

Now imagine tens of thousands of people in Gaza celebrating the murder, rape, torture, burning alive and massacre of all these hundreds of young people.

But that’s not all of it. Now imagine that millions upon millions of people across the entire Western world cheered and celebrated and partied at the news of hundreds of young people being raped, burned alive, blown to pieces, and slaughtered. And then they marched and called for that same massacre to happen again in a mass frenzy of bloodlust.

And the worst part?

You don’t need to imagine. Because it happened. And it’s still happening. And everyone just seems to be ok with it.

En de gekkies van @DenkNL hebben het bij anderen over extremisten en bewegingen die verboden moeten worden, terwijl we steeds weer voorgeschoteld krijgen met wat voor tuig en extremisten ze zélf demonstreren.

De stenen die tijdens de demonstratie waartoe DENK had opgeroepen werden gegooid, kwamen richting ons, de politie en journalisten. Het pro-Palestijnse tuig dat universiteiten sloopt, samen demonstreren met van terrorismefinanciering verdachte personen en islamitische extremisten, steeds weer moslimgeweld goedpraten met „die anderen provoceerden”, en nu gezellig op de foto met iemand die mensen heeft neergestoken, enzovoort…

Blijf vooral met dat vingertje naar anderen wijzen. 🤡
