I believe we need the next generation of politicians to behave with respect for others and with integrity.
Integrity means being honest and having strong moral principles. A person with integrity behaves ethically & does the right thing, even behind closed doors.

Cllr Sarah Redrup: Absolute clarity - is postponing the elections absolutely mandatory?
Government suggest it will defer the elections if priority programme is entered. This council cannot cancel elections, that can only be done by government.
Cllr Warren Drew: I can't see any reference to "substantial funding" in the White Paper. Where exactly do you get this from?
{Unclear answers} My note: This still needs ironing out!
Cllr Michael Lilley: White paper mentions buses and trains... but not ferries. It's interesting that in London ferries are included! ...
Cross-Solent Transport has been agreed as critical by the 4 authority leaders
Cllr Joe Robertson MP (who is at County Hall): Has government been asked about the possibility of an IOW Mayor instead?
A Deputy Mayor for the Island might be possible... these issues will be dealt with when the discussions begin. The priority programme will offer that
How will this affect town and parish councils elections?
*Town and Parish council elections can go ahead if local elections are postponed
*Any other wards where the representative resigns would hold a bi-election
How will we be represented?
This council will remain structurally the same
This authority will have equal rights and equal votes on the devolved powers arrangement
@iowcouncil "The key point to make is that devolution is not amalgamation... devolution does not entail this council being amalgamated with any other council... The IOW is already a unitary authority... it's a strategic partnership." Cllr Phil Jordan

Just getting started... An Extraordinary General Meeting @iowcouncil to discuss devolution and democracy - including delaying the May 2025 Local elections on the Island #isleofwight#islandstories#democracy
@iowcouncil Question: ... What additional funding and benefit would this devolution transfer to our Island and when?
Answer: The benefit for the Island is that it has the potiential to provide access to economic funding not currently available to the area... funding could be avail next year
@iowcouncil Question: Can this process be delayed... I am worried the Island could lose out?
Answer: The Council is unable to delay the decision. At this stage, there are no decisions being made... any changes would require public consultation and decision by full council
@iowcouncil Apologies received from 3 County Councillors including West Wight MP Cllr Richard Quigley who is we assume in Westminster tonight instead. He has publicly said he's 'pro' devolution in this form
