@unstill_life categorically? just because we have few examples does not mean that something can't be categorized as art because it is a videogame. Every medium has its mass produced slop, and while videogames probably have the most, it still does not mean it's a medium that can't be art
@Shane00 yes, but would you say that Luka today has an equal chance of winning the championship to Lebron in 2011-2012? The Lakers are at best an above average team, I don't see them making it past Spurs or OKC...
@BladerLBM I agree, but usually people make comparisons to a movie. That is in large part the problem, because videogames in my eyes are closer related to board games or sports than they are to movies
@BladerLBM The best part is that if you lose, the story continues and adapts. You now get to continue using the character, but it might have other consequences later on, and you have to live with knowing you have disappointed them
@BladerLBM Who was an essential part of your gameplay experience. You both say goodbye to someone in the story, but are also forced to adapt and come up with new strategies in order to win from that point on. Call me pretentious, but I do not think a film or a book can recreate this.
@LocalBtnMasher I guess I agree from the standpoint that if your meter/resource based moves are very powerful, then it does take away from the challenge of the game, because you can save them and use them to skip encounters that you would normally need to learn how to beat
@LocalBtnMasher Maybe I am unskilled, but I don't think DMC3 and 4 are are trivial on DMD with unlimited DT
Comparatively I could easily beat NG2 on MN with unlimited ninpo
So by your logic NG2 is more sinful than DMC3/4? Or am I misunderstanding you?
@WaywornCypress@BellularGaming admittedly I did exaggerate. And to the writers credit, I actually liked when she said "I didn't get to say goodbye". But I still think this trend of heavy monologue is just a bad way to deliver information and do characterization
@LocalBtnMasher @divintrial don't really see it as an issue, unless you are able to endlessly juggle. Even if you get a hitstun, you're still in danger of getting hit by other enemies. I think DMC4 gravity is a great balance between reward for juggling but also danger
@LocalBtnMasher @divintrial don't understand what you mean by "positive feedback loop that prevents resets unless other factors exist". you mean that if the player is positively rewarded for juggling, that's bad?
