This is total drivel. The Royal Marines are going to forcibly return migrants to France? There are circa 6,000 Royal Marines, many already fully deployed in essential work for our national security. There are 96,000 very well-armed French gendarmes + the national police + municipal police. And that’s with out calling in the 10,000 French super-trained commandos. Not to mention the formidable GIGN. Is Reform trying to start a war with France? One we’d lose …. Bonkers.

Mike is right. You start invading France with Navy ships and the obvious and easy response is for France to end English border checks on the French side. France removes the security around the ports. Smugglers switch back to the 5000 trucks a day entering the UK, with no chance of checking them all.

Numbers go up, but you don't know by how much because these ones you can't count.

Richard @TiceRichard I’ve explained to you in the past, very clearly, why this is particular approach is unworkable.

My fear is not that you’d try to do this, should you ever have the opportunity, it’s that the last thing the nation wants or needs are yet more promises that will not survive contact with legal, operational or practical reality.

This may be a catchy headline that you deploy to distract from other issues, but it will fail as a policy, and fail badly.
