The "remote vs office" debate is mostly noise.
Hybrid has quietly become the default, and it's failing.
Here’s what actually works (and how we run it at a 100+ person startup).
Might be worth a save. 🧵
New Zealand has fallen from 6th to 26th in GDP per capita.
25 countries now offer higher wages and better opportunities. For many Kiwis, that’s become a reason to leave — and not return.
@bowenpan (Ex Meta, Stripe, Dropbox) and a growing group of can-do business leaders and tech innovators have launched Growth NZ — an independent, non-partisan initiative aiming for 5% annual economic growth by 2035.
The focus: education, innovation, investment, revenue, and talent — and the belief that we have to grow our way to stronger public services and greater opportunity.
This gives me hope for our fabulous little country. And not a reference to that imaginary place Aotearoa anywhere!!
[ SUPERPOWER'S VISION ]
The human story is a story of progress.
And while every system and institution has been accelerated by technology and AI...
We forgot human health itself.
Somewhere along the way, the health system became about treating sickness rather than improving life.
So we asked –
How might we build a new system for health?
There are a few parts.
A new health system will:
1. Be the front door – before doctors or Google
2. Prevent disease & enhance human capability
3. Deliver care via AI
4. Feel more like Apple or Tesla than a hospital
5. Put power into the hands of people
6. Lower costs, in line with physics not incentives
7. Bring frontier therapeutics to everyone, far faster
Within this new system, our lives begin to improve.
Health becomes a tool that helps us be happier, more energetic, smarter, fitter, more vibrant, and live longer.
HOW DO WE GET THERE?
Our three-step plan:
STEP 1 — deliver the world’s best lab testing
STEP 2 — build the full action layer (protocol, RX, supplements)
STEP 3 — use a self-learning healthcare system to create a superior model of medicine
INTRODUCING SUPERPOWER
Superpower is your home for health.
We give you the best tests, protocols, therapeutics, peptides, and AI.
You tell us your goals, preferences, budget, health history; we tell you what to do. We test your body, aggregate your data, and build a protocol to put your health on autopilot.
Practically, we give you:
+ Blood draws
+ Biological age
+ N of 1 protocols
+ Health records storage
+ Personalized supplements
+ Advanced therapies
+ GLP-1s & peptides
+ RX prescriptions
+ Cancer testing
+ Toxin testing
+ Gut testing
+ And more
93% of our members say we're better than their doctor or life changing.
Our goal is to help you feel great. You should look younger, have more energy, sleep better, and live longer.
We remove the thinking. We provide the system. Health finally becomes easy. In time, the system will know what you should do better than any doctor, concierge, or human on the planet.
How?
In the process, we build a digital twin of your health that improves with time so that we can move towards a new, superior model of medicine.
We create a learning healthcare system, which takes us to the final step of our three-step plan (more on that soon).
WHAT'S NEXT
This is the start of multi-decade journey. We aren’t done until the human health is transformed for the better.
Over the coming weeks, I’m going to be sharing weekly shipping updates to show how we’re achieving this vision.

IT'S TIME – announcing our most important launch yet.
Superpower is now only $199.
Almost every American spends a few hundred $ per year on things like:
– Netflix
– Spotify
– Amazon Prime
– Dating or meditation apps
– Annual credit card fees
Today, that's true for the most important thing of all.
Your health.
Hot take: the entire interface around vibe coding is wrong
They all collapse design, flow, and build into one linear chat, which actually makes no sense. They’re code first -> visual last then you fight the code when the idea shifts.
the workflow really should be a visual first loop. explore a bunch of ideas visually -> lock a style system based on favs -> auto scaffold flows/pages -> then compile once
We really should be treating design as the source of truth rather than prompts. “Vibe coding” really should be “vibe designing” and the “coding” should be a button I hit once ive decided on a path.
Once you flip it like that, these linear chat interfaces don’t make any sense, because design is non-linear.
AI is so fast and cheap at generating ideas, so just give me a shitload of ideas, let me narrow it down and expand on it visually, then when it feels right, click build. I don’t want to prompt -> build one idea -> fight to tweak -> repeat. No one does
None of today’s tools hit on this idea end to end, but @Magicpathai and @relume_io are both on the right track i think
Nicholas Bloom’s research shows most employees like hybrid models about as much as getting an 8% pay raise.
That’s useful to know, but preference isn’t the same as performance. Just because hybrid is popular doesn’t mean it works.
Designing your company around what’s liked, rather than what drives outcomes, is how performance degrades over time.

@DanBrockwell In all seriousness, what made the difference for me is drinking ~1.5L of water almost immediately after waking; sticking with 1 black coffee (topping up with hot water), then a green tea or 2 (and more water!) if I feel lethargic.

If this resonated, share it, save it, or send it to someone figuring this out.
And if you're doing something different that actually works, I want to hear it.
5/
It works because we’re clear.
You're expected to be in.
Not 3 days. Not 5. Just: “be around most of the time.”
We don’t measure it.
People want clarity. Not vibes.

At our startup, we landed on this:
Office-First with Flexibility
• The default is the office
• Flexibility when it actually matters
• No tracking, no mandates
• High trust, high expectations
2/
Hybrid sounds reasonable.
But most companies run it like this:
“Come in when you want”
“3 days/week (but we won’t track it)”
“Let teams decide”
No one knows what’s expected.
The result: empty offices and scattered teams.
If you want to learn how we structure our "Season Opener Weeks" (and what we've learned from the first 17 quarters!), comment Partly below or DM me, and I'll send you our planning template.
The most impactful shift we made this season? Ensuring every person at Partly has just one, extremely clear, single-threaded goal - their ‘one thing’ for Q1.
