If you even slightly entertain the thought of failure, you give your mind a chance to start noticing reasons to fail. But if the only option on your mind is to win, then the world seems to conspire in your favor, because your mind will notice opportunities it wouldn't have before. Become delusionally optimistic, not because it's realistic, but because it's effective. It drastically increases your chances of success.
without urgency, years slip by like days. with extreme urgency, days stretch into years. urgency is the most underrated & most important force in making something of your life.
Your brain turns repeated avoidance into fear. The first time you avoid a task, it feels like relief. The fifth time, the same task feels scary. Avoidance trains fear to grow.
If you can't sit in a room and do nothing for 30 minutes.
Or read a novel for 2 hours without stopping.
You're brain is broken.
It's f*cking up almost every aspect of your life. Reversing this should be priority #1.
reminder to shoot your shot.
start your thing.
dm that founder.
apply for that job.
write that tweet.
ask that person out.
you have very little to lose.
and potentially everything to gain.
the expected value is overwhelmingly positive.
most people don’t miss opportunities because they weren’t good enough.
they miss them because they never took the shot.
serendipity rarely finds people who never put themselves in its path.
go for it, thank me later.
there is this strong pattern that i have observed with people who are obsessed with ideas
they will pick something up, work on it but never take it to the finish line
why?
one - going from 0.99 to 1 is a lot of effort and structured work and it also takes some more time
two - obsessions with ideas leads to new ideas
they end up not finishing the first and moving on to the next
this cycle goes on and on and if they are successful - it is because they got lucky and they might not be able to replicate it
ideas without superior execution are worthless, dont fall into this trap
pick something > execute to the T > review/introspect > iterate
Never quit as a founder. I’m begging you.
It’s 0 for longer than you’ll ever expect. No momentum. Soul-crushing doubts. Nobody seems to care. Even when it looks like it’s working, it’s not. You keep trying new things. You don’t lose hope.
Then it snaps to 100. You finally find the one thing that resonates. You wake up with more customers than you can handle. Everything is breaking. Momentum keeps building even when you’re not pushing. Something changed.
You didn’t get lucky, you just didn’t leave.
All of the best things in life require a degree of embarrassment, or at least the possibility of it. Dancing, singing, sharing art, cooking food, having sex, holding hands; there is risk in it all. You could burn dinner or sing off key; no act of self expression or love is exempt from this danger.
People don’t procrastinate because they lack ambition. They procrastinate because they don’t believe their effort will produce results.
The reason they don't have that conviction is probably how they were raised or the environment they grew up in.
Maybe a friend laughed at them when they messed up an assignment they were really passionate about. Maybe their parents told them to never take risks, or told them they were bad at math when they thought they were good at math.
So they no longer have the belief that [X action] will create [Y result].
They’ll say, “I want to launch this business,” and then when it comes time to take action, they make it hard to actually get something done.
If I were to go into something and truly convince myself ‘I wouldn't get the result’ just before taking action I wouldn't launch the business either.
The difference is that someone else truly believes they can get the result and that belief wanes over time if you don't protect it.
Believe in yourself, or work through all of that childhood bullshit.
That's probably the most effective thing people can do to actually start.
Most people believe they are their intentions: what they plan (in the future) to do.
In reality you are what you are currently doing and the future is simply a projection of that.
You are action, not intention. This is sort of a life hack because then you can just spend time on improving action without worrying about intention (that usually solves itself).
You have built an entire identity around being someone who could succeed if they tried. That identity is a warm blanket. Real action is a cold shower. When you finally attempt something, you risk losing the story that has comforted you for years. What if you try and discover you are average? What if you try and find no special talent? This is not fear of failure. This is fear of ordinariness. So you stay in the planning phase forever. You buy the notebook. You watch the tutorial. You tell friends your idea. Anxiety spikes whenever someone asks for a deadline. You are not protecting your future. You are protecting a fantasy that has already expired.
If you are tired of losing, stop "thinking"
( "thinking" has plagued me for YEARS )
Do this instead :
- Ship that "thing" that you are interested in, even if it does not make sense at all
- Make a video showing your thing, focus on why its awesome not what it does
- Workout, clean your room, journal your shit instead of bottling.
Thats it, thats the whole game.
The world will try every single minute of everyday to distract you and pull you into "thinking". The person that focuses on action instead of "thinking" will win.
If you don't know where to start, stop thinking about it and just get started on anything. Starting the wrong thing is better than thinking. The path will reveal itself.
You cannot mentally wrestle life, you cannot think yourself into winning.
