Donghae on SUPER JUNIOR and His Hopes for Acting Again..

In Donghae’s dictionary of life, his solo activities may have opened up a new path, but when it comes to SUPER JUNIOR, he says, “It is my home, and the members are my family.” He smiled and said, “The amount of time I’ve spent with them, being together, meeting each other, and living together, is even longer than the time I’ve spent with my family.”

It is precisely because he has such a solid safe haven behind him that he can carry that familiar love with him into unfamiliar territory. And because he learned what it feels like to be supported and caught by his members as part of a group, becoming a solo singer has made him understand even more deeply the weight of carrying everything on his own. He also brings the stage chemistry and emotional bonds accumulated over many years with SUPER JUNIOR into his solo work.

Beyond music, Donghae still holds onto his aspirations for acting and hopes to return as an actor. What he wants to portray is not a hero who feels distant from everyday life. “If I get the opportunity in the future, I’d like to be part of a warm project that allows the audience to feel its warmth. I want to portray something that moves people emotionally, something that reflects what people experience in their lives over time. The character can have dramatic elements, but at the same time, I want everyone to be able to relate to it in their everyday lives.”

This choice also feels very much like who he is at this point in his life: rather than a loud or flashy presence, he believes that what truly remains in people’s hearts is warmth.

Once the stage spotlight and the outer layer of his roles are stripped away, Donghae’s life is remarkably simple and pure, with a practical quality that seems fitting for his age. His busy schedule leaves him with almost no time to develop new interests, and even working out, something he has always loved, has become difficult to maintain. At the moment, with an old back injury having flared up again, “I want to continue with rehabilitation and treatment and take good care of my body.”

As the years pass, he has also come to realize: “Time will not exist forever. Precisely because it isn’t eternal, it becomes even more precious and makes me want to protect it even more.” If everything were destined to exist forever, people would easily become complacent. “Because our time is limited, we should do our best to enjoy every moment of the present. I will also continue to work hard with everything I have.”

That is how he can keep stepping onto the stage again and again, singing the melodies in his heart once more for the people who love him deeply.

First of all, thank you everyone for your concern. I’ve had X-rays and a CT scan—everything is fine. It’s just that my left leg hurts a lot and I can’t move it for now.
