The New York Times reports, based on analysis of video, photos, and satellite imagery, that a US strike destroyed a home in a densely populated area of Iran's Qeshm Island, killing a married couple and their two-year-old son.

Two other children from the family were pulled from the rubble alive and are now in stable condition in hospital.

Experts assess the weapon used was a 2,000-pound Mark 84 bomb fitted with a JDAM guidance kit, one of the largest conventional bombs in the US arsenal. The strike left a crater at least nine meters wide, with debris and damaged vehicles found more than 60 meters away. Around 20 families were left homeless.

NYT found no evidence of a military target near the destroyed home, nor any reports of military casualties.

US Central Command said it is reviewing information on civilian casualties but did not respond on what the actual target was or why a bomb of that size was used.

Over the past few hours, Iranian state media have continued to report false claims by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) – three in particular.

🚫 FIRST CLAIM: The IRGC (again) claims free and open routes through the Strait of Hormuz are dangerous for commercial vessels.
