Our هفتسین (haft sin) this year was pretty chaotic due to a very naughty kitten!
#Haftsin is a display of seven objects beginning with the letter س (s) in #Farsi (#Persian) - plus a few more chucked in for good measure.
#Nowruz#LearnPersian#langtwt#Iran
Our هفتسین included the following objects:
Sprouts or سبزه (sabzeh) symbolizing growth
Oleaster fruit or سنجد (senjed) symbolizing love
Garlic or سیر (seer) symbolizing medicine
Apple or سیب (seeb) symbolizing health
Sumac or سماق (somāgh) symbolizing sunshine
@DrHelenTaylorCC@justleyla Hi Helen,
This is how you write them in Farsi:
Chaharshanbeh soori
چهارشنبه سوری
Sorkhi-ye to az man, Zardi-ye man az to
سرخی تو از من زردی من از تو
Tomorrow night is one of the best nights of the year- chāhār shanbé sooree, which literally means “the scarlet Wednesday”, celebrated on the last Wednesday eve (also known as Tuesday night) of the year. These are the complete instructions on how to participate.
Tonight is Chahârshanbeh Soori (red Wednesday) - the last Tuesday evening of the solar year. Iranians take turn jumping over fires while saying:
سرخی تو از من زردی من از تو
(sorkhi-e to az man, zardi-e man az to) - [let] your [firey] redness be mine, my yellow [paleness] yours.
Chahârshanbeh Soori is an ancient tradition that for many marks the beginning of نوروز (norooz), the lunar new year which is celebrated in Persian, Parsi, Afghan, and Kurdish communities around the world.

The name Muslims used for Europe in the Medieval Age was "Frangistân" (فرنگستان) which was a mix of the Persian words "Farang" (فرنگ, "Frank") and the suffix "-stân" (ستان- "Land of"), literally "Land of the Franks (French)".
